The subject says it all. I want to buy an apple watch to replace my fitbit ace two. The fitbit does work by using the fitbit app, but the bands keep breaking on me. Also, I want to track things like my sleep and steps without having to sync a device to my phone every day. What version of the apple watch would you suggest I buy? I don't want the watch to have cellular, as I plan to use it more as a fitness tracker than to make phone calls. Plus, having the watch with cellular would mean I have to add a second line on to my plan, wich is something I can't do right now. How easy is the watch to set up with voiceover and getting your info on it like your apple id and such? What apps are good for a first time apple watch user?

Go for the SE or series 8
Go for the SE series or the series 8 of apple watch. The setup process is easy and straight forward, just enable voiceover on the apple watch once it starts up and your good to go. As for apps... I mainly use the apps that come built-in in watch OS as they are more than enough for my needs so cant really help in that area if your looking for something more specific, but yeah. The pairing and setup process is easy, just turn on voiceover on the watch, open the watch app on your phone, and you'll be guided through the step by step process as to how to set up your watch.
I agree with getting an SE.
I got an SE earlier this year to replace my old charge two… The bands kept breaking, lol. But, the newer ones didn’t have a button… I have more control over my workouts and recording them now… But it takes a little bit more to find my steps and the sleep recording isn’t the same as Fitbit. I really wish it was though… I use Pillow to do that. an Apple Watch is different than a Fitbit and can take a bit to set up, but I believe I made a great investment in doing so. I love being able to check my notifications without having to find my phone and my carrier has Wi-Fi calling so if I am on Wi-Fi I can make calls from my watch or answer them.
Save your money!
Hi! I bought an Apple Watch SE when it came out. I would say save your money and buy something cheaper to track the things you want to track. Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with Apple Watch, I just thought it wasn't all that, and not worth spending that much money on.
The Apple Watch was easy to set up and use. I really liked it, but I think it is way to expensive for what it actually is and does. . My suggestion is save your money!
It's your decision
Though you can't swing a cel plan right now, I'd think about it. Personally, I bought the watch knowing I could use a cell plan with it. I couldn't justify the expense of something only on wifi. I do not know if you are a woman but it will track that part of your life if that's something. Also you can track workout like swimming. If you can touch the watch, might help you decide. I don't like the sports band yet not willing to buy another one. The cell plan is only ten bucks a month and you don't need a separate number for the watch.
I can't recommend the ultra highly enoug
I remember writing a similar post to this a few months ago, andI was given great advice, so now I am trying to pay it forward. It may not be in your budget, and might be overkill for your needs, but I would very highly recommend going for the Apple Watch Ultra. Yes, it has cellular, but my service provider doesn't support that, so I simply don't use that feature. It works just fine over wifi. As for why I chose it, there were many reasons. A part of me has wanted an Apple Watch ever since 2015, but I could never justify the expense; couldn't think of anything I'd use it for. When the AppleWatch Ultra was released, though, I decided to go for it. I have significant hearing loss, so the better speakers in the ultra were a major selling point to me. My best friend has a regular Apple watch 8, and based on the way hers sounds when she uses siri or gets notifications, I know that I made the only choice that would have worked for my specific situation. Another benefits of the ultra is its awesome battery life; I can usually go 2 or 3 days between charges. Lastly, I wanted the ultra for it's extra durability. I always try to be as careful as possible with my tech toys, but no matter how careful I am, I have a history of bumping my watch on walls and other things. With the ultra, I'm not as worried about my watch getting damaged by minor bumps and scrapes.
As others have said, it's ultimately your decision, and you need to pick the watch that best fits your needs and budget, but if you can find a way to afford it, I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with the ultra. Best of luck with whatever purchase you end up making, and I hope you enjoy it.
