Apple Beta Releases

Hi All, re 16.2 public beta today Had a security update advised for all users. Suggest people on the public beta do not install it. Once installed VoiceOver has completely died. You can hear clicks as if the speech is turned off but they are very quiet. However, there is no speech. Turning off and on Vo fails. Turning on the speech again fails and restarting the phone with a hard reset fails. There is no way of getting vo back. Have had to restore phone to a backup and unfortunately, that doesn't work either. Going to restore phone again and try an even earlier backup. If that fails I'm screwed and will have to start installing everything from scratch. So be careful if you think it worth installing the security update from my point it is a disaster and I hope I'm the only one. Iphone 13 pro.

Your Feedback is Important to Improving Accessibility on Apple platforms

Don't assume that Apple is aware of a bug or that your report won't make a difference - submitting bug reports directly to the company helps them reproduce and resolve the issue faster. Your report may provide crucial information. The more reports they receive, the higher the priority they give to fixing the bug.

If you're using a beta version, use the Feedback Assistant on your device to submit feedback and bug reports. If you're using a public release, follow the instructions on this page.

Oh should have said I can't report this to Apple as there is no speech so can't use the feedback app and I needed sighted help to restore the phone. Shambles!

I really hope this gets fixed by the time this gets into the public updates... if not we'll be screwed.

No problem here after installing the Rapid Security Response.

According to this article it is possible to uninstall a Rapid Security Response: How To Remove Rapid Security Response Updates in iOS 16

  1. Go to Settings -> General -> About.
  2. Tap iOS Version.
  3. Tap Remove Security Response.

Nice but if you do not have VO? what! Glad that I stop using beta.

I updated with no problem at all, and I know at least three others who did likewise.
That’s not to say it’s not an issue for some, but it doesn’t appear to be a widespread issue.
Lee may just have gotten very unlucky, but it’s hard to know.

Hi guys, Glad to hear most are not having this issue. Reverting to a 3 week old backup seems to have got everything back up. Hopefully this was one of those odd vo issues which crop up once and then you can't repeat them.

No issue here. I wonder if it didn't install properly or something strange happened.

Never saw this issue on my iPad mini 6 either so like others hoping this was just something strange.

Hello Lee and all.

Oh my goodness Lee, so pleased you managed to restore an old back up and get things working after all. I’m one of those who hasn’t as yet taken the plunge with iOS 16, so is 16.2 out yet or is it still in beta.

Whilst writing, can I highlight another issue entirely please and ask for thoughts and comments:
Does anyone else find that the Audible library is no longer browsable with VoiceOver? By which I mean that every time I try swiping through my list of books, it appears to jump back up to the top after I have read about six titles, does anyone else have this issue, can’t remember when it started, but I just am not able to browse through my titles these days, which is very annoying. Thoughts please if anyone else has had issues.

Happy first of December everyone, I know it’s not quite Christmas yet, but those with children and young families will be feeling the excitement by now i’m sure.

Cheers for now

Erica

Hi
This is an audible issue, not a VoiceOver one it seems. I think it staarted on iOS 15 for me. You can use the scroll with 3 fingers gesture as a workaround, then browse by sliding your finger.
