Head's Up: Customizing Accessibility is on the horizon

Hi All,

There is a customizable IOS accessibility feature coming out, as reported by the Verge. Here's the link to the article:

https://apple.news/AoRtiIz7tTKmG1BxGc6mDzw

Among other things, the article claims the user will be able to change the size of, well, pretty much everything.

It's not coming out very soon, but it does look promising, especially for the partially sighted.

Joy!

This looks interesting. What are others thoughts on this?

I've always wanted the buttons to be larger, even though I only use VO and have no sight. For what ever reason, I miss them with explore by touch and have to do a lot of swiping around. Would this even work with VO on?

If it means everything moved around, and the loss of the folders it took time for me to make, I'm definitely not on board.

Sorry, but it sounds to me like people with limited vision would benefit a lot more than those with no vision at all, unless of course, I’m missing something. As far as I’m concerned, the article is just not going into it deep enough for me to make a proper decision. For now, it raises more questions than answers. I’ll hold my horsey for now.

Would prefer that apple focus on fixing bugs. Not interested in any features if bugs are not fix. I pay $800 for a phone. I expect it to work without giving me a headache.

When I read this article, the first thing which comes to mind is a simpler interface for less advanced users. Many of us on this site are pretty efficient iPhone/iPad users who are totally comfortable with the interface. However, in my job, I often work with older individuals with declining vision who are confused by lots of icons and gestures. One of the reasons the BlindShell is so popular is because it is all menu driven. I'm wondering if this isn't a way for Apple to make a simpler interface for older individuals who do not want a complicated phone with lots of apps and commands. If so, I would applaud this change as it would open up the world of iOS to more users. Just my initial thoughts.

Maybe it's just me, but the more I get excited about something, the more disappointed I am when it ends up not the way I imagine it to be.

We can speculate all we want, but until we actually see something in action, then it's not worth getting excited over.

This will probably be more of a visual thing, so for most of us that use Voiceover, things will probably behave the same.

Of corse I could be wrong, but I think I'll be sitting back and watching to see what happens.

Something like this isn't new, for Apple I suppose it is, but Android has had this for years.

I believe they call them Launchers.
