Hi all,
I hope all is well. I just want to know what your favorite social media apps and sites are. I left twitter recently because I really don't use it that much, but I still want to chat and get to know other people and stuff. I've tried clubhouse and vorail, but I wasn't really a fan of either of those. I know there's a bunch of social networking apps I could choose from, but I'd just like suggestions for some good ones. Thanks in advance. All the best,
Leslie

Don't Use Social Networking Anymore But...
I just deleted my Facebook account--or I guess had it done for me--and I'm thinking about doing the same with my Twitter and LinkedIn accounts. I tried out Clubhouse and while very good, I just don't have the time to devote to it right now. I've also been on others that have come and gone such as Inclusive Planet. My primary reason for having my Facebook account deleted is that their accessibility is such a moving target. But as of late there seems to have been so much hate on the social-networking platforms, that I don't think it's worth the trouble anyway. I'd much rather talk on forums such as the ones found here on AppleVis. I'd also much rather email, text message, and of course talk with people via phone call. Over these years I'd have to say I've gotten really good at texting. There's still stuff I have to learn such as how to better interact with emoji. But I have become a big fan of text messages. That is primarily how my family and I communicate these days, if we're not in the same room. Plus, with COVID-19 texting seems to be the thing to do.
Facebook for me
I use Facebook. Although I don't get on as often as I used to. Because I'm tired of all the crap, it's the same thing every day, and, I'm just very busy in general. I do however, use Messenger because that's what me and my family use to text each other. I also use that with my friends for texting and calling. Because some live so far away that make ax too expensive to call on the phone. We only have a landline. Plus, my friends and family are a mixed bag of operating systems. Me and my parents are Apple, but, my good friend Niki is a Droid.
I do agree that Facebook accessibility can and has been lacking at times. But, for the most part, I've found the app to be quite accessible. The website? Not so much. I too have Clubhouse but haven't been on or in it for a long time. Mainly because of time constraints. But, I hope that helps!
Facebook is a very bad idea, say the experts
Hi. I quit facebook a couple years ago after reading a few articles about facebook hogging your iPhone memory, running down your iPhone battery, and stealing and selling your personal data. I also quit because it is a great way to feel down while being battered by anger, fear and hatred. Last, I quit because the facebook company is unethical in a variety of ways, and I have no interest in supporting unethical behavior.
Now that Musk has bought twitter, I'll be dropping twitter too. Don't need or want to support lying. We've got way too much of that as it is.
I do like applevis.com, though. smile
Re: Bruce
Yeah, I kinda feel the same way about Facebook. The main reason I stay on, is because that's where all my family is. And sadly, for the most part, that's how I hear about stuff in their lives. Litterally that's the only way I hear about stuff. Because some of them practically live their whole lives on there. But, I don't use it as much as I used to for some of the same reasons as you. However, when it comes to social media, that's the only one I have and use. I like AppleVis too though as welal! :-)
Reddit.
I check reddit nearly every day. It's amazing, you can subscribe to mini forums called subs. I use distopia on my phone and redditforblind on my windows machine.

I laughed outloud when I read:
"twitter is for drunk and middle aged people who confuse free speech with being an asshole."
I love it!
Be wary of What's app, though. Experts uniformly give it a thumb's down as a battery drainer, a memory hog and a security risk.
My social media behaviors
The only real social networking accounts I have are Twitter, for viewing a variety of content, and Youtube, for occasionally commenting on or replying to comments on videos.
Regarding Twitter, I feel the quality of content has been going down hill for a long time, and my early expectation is that the decline will continue or possibly accelerate now that Elon Musk is in charge. I originally used it to follow a select number of individuals and organizations, but have increasingly noticed my timeline being flooded by tweets from recommended topics, tweets that it thinks I might like based on some previously viewed tweet, and promoted tweets. Adding to that, some of the tweets I encounter seem to lack appropriate context, which can make it difficult to get good background information on a topic or even know what the tweet author is talking about.
I'd say besides Youtube, the most entertaining and enriching social network for me is probably Reddit, particularly the R/Apple, R/AITA and R/AskReddit SubReddits. However, I rarely post in such threads, but brows them to get interesting information and perspectives on a wide range of topics.
