I have an iPhone 14 pro and I'm not able to turn the ear piece's volume down using the volume buttons. Is there a setting that you have to enable? Is anyone experiencing this issue?
I've seen several people on Facebook mention they're having this problem. So far, they can't seem to find any consistency with when it does or doesn't work. I haven't seen anyone post a work-around yet.
Hello, I also have this problem. The problem is only observed when voiceover is turned on. Can the buttons work when the phone is moved away from the ear?
Yes, I also put a post on here and surprisingly not many people responded so I’m guessing either they don’t use the earpiece or it hasn’t affected them, but I also have the issue. I do have an iPhone 12 mini with iOS 16.1. Like others have said, it’s just not consistent but it is happening a lot, although sometimes if people call me the volume buttons do work but generally they don’t. I hear that it’s also a bug in 16.2 beta so I really hope it does get sorted.
What’s worse is sometimes the volume is so loud I am pressing the phones earpiece into my cheek to make it quiet enough not to blow my ears out. I’m pretty bored with apple not respecting my hearing. The amount of times they blew my ears out with the old proximity sensor bug around the iPhone 7 time was not funny and now they’re back. Ok fine, put a speaker in where only a low powered earpiece is required but for god sake, sort your software and hardware out so it doesn’t use its full power when peoples ears are next to it. Volume controls not working is secondarily annoying compared to the volume being the full volume of the speaker but I’d still like it to be fixed. I have no control over the volume at all. I wonder if this is still the case without Voiceover? I haven’t heard people yelling about it so I assume its a special just for us.
Thank you for starting this thread. I have never had so many issues after purchasing a new phone, and the volume buttons not working on a call was just about ready to be the final straw. Thanks to what I have learned in this thread, hopefully it will be fixed ASAP as it is a more wide scale issue.
Having the same issue, I replaced my iPhone 12 because I was having this issue and thought my new one would work better, it does but sometimes the buttons won't work when on a call. Is this device specific?

Seems to be a bug

It’s a definite bug, I tried turning VoiceOver off and it makes no difference
Oh thats great its not VO specific.
Hopefully that means it will be fixed.

Volume issue on calls
