iPhone 14 and face ID question

Hi,
I just got my 1 tb iPhone 14 pro today, and really like it, although I keep going to the app switcher instead of home, it's going to take practice, lol. Anyway, I was able to set up face ID, although it was tricky. After I feel haptic feedback that face id unlocked my phone successfully, why do I still have to do the home gesture? When I used touch id with my SE 2020, after Touch ID unlocked it, I didn't have to press home I don't think. Unless I would accidentally press it when I was triggering touch ID? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Sorry to be the barer of bad news, but I think it's a safety measure of sorts. You have to unlock iwth your face, then swipe up. Also get used to the feeling of each feedback, one, home, two longer ones apart, app switcher. I never did get it to work with a mask, thank God that's over with, and i don't know about anyone else, but since 16 I think it unlocks even a 12 just a tiny bit faster.

I think it's for privacy reasons. I have my phone set to not show the contents of notifications unless the phone is unlocked. I can unlock the phone and see their contents on the lock screen.

Ok, at least I know that's the way it's supposed to be. It's getting easier as I get more used to it. It sure beats entering passcodes constantly. But I was determined I was going to use touch ID no matter what, as opposed to the alternative (entering passwords), which could be a security issue in and of itself, if you use the phone with speaker and people are around. That's what was nice about touch ID. I'm definitely becoming more consistent with touch ID as time goes on. I modified voiceover touch gestures for a one-finger triple tap to simulate home, so once I feel the haptic confirming that touch ID unlocked the phone, I just do a quick triple tap, and it works. So, it's just a matter of getting used to it, that's how it always seems to be with anything for me, lol.
