Hi all, I know this sounds crazy, but I have yet to update my iPhone 4 to ios 5. I absolutely love this site and have found a lot of good info through it! Thanks to everyone for posting all you do! Anyway, a few minutes ago I found 10.VoiceOver bugs in iOS 5 and decided to read it. After reading, I'm not sure I want to update my phone just yet. I'm curious, have things gotten better in the last month or so? Thanks.

Well... I think it has! The only thing that seems anoying to me is the compact voices! Samantha sounds horrible when used in compact voice! I don't have an iPhone I have an iPod Touch by the way!

I am wondering about a therey. I have podcasts by David Woodbridge and have noticed that his voice, which is the austraillian voice, is just as clear as the us english voice for the us users. So, my therey is, if we set our regional settings to brittish or austraillian, will it make the voices the uncompacted ones if connected to wi-fi?
The compacted voices are of a lower bit rate and do not inunciate or pronounce thing quite correctly. As for the uncompacted voices, they do quite the oposit. I wish I could get the uncompacted brittish and austraillian voices as well as the us voice that I have now.
I really hate uncompact Samantha! I haven't gotten a chance to hear uncompact Karen--I'm still not sure how to get the uncompact voices for other languages. I'd be interested in hearing the uncompact Karen to see if I like it better than the uncompact Samantha. I think uncompact Samantha is absolutely awful. To be fair, I was never a fan of her in any form whatsoever, so I could be just naturally disposed to annoyance when hearing her, but I really feel like the uncompact version is crap. It pronounces things horribly, and is ... well, the only I can think to desribe it is shaky.. Anyone else agree? An any help on how to get the uncompact Karen would be appreciated. If it's something as simple as changing your region in iTunes, I'll laugh.

I really want and would love to have all the English voices uncompacted. English US, English Brittish, English Austraillian, English Irish, and English South Afrocan. I think it would be totally awesome, I use the Brittish voice all the time and would love to have him sound like he does either on the Mac or PC.

I don't understand what all the yearning for uncompacted voices is about. Just get them on your language rotor, connect to the mains and you'll have them - I have UK, USA and Australian on my iPhone 4S.
I have all the english voices in my roter. and I have connected to the mains for quite a long time. and, still, the only uncompacted voice is the US English voice.

Compact voices are only available for your default region; I don't know why. To get another is as simple as changing the region in Itunes or on your phone. If you want to find out what uncompact Karen sounds like, change your region to Austrilia and wait about an hour on Wifi for the voice to download. She will come on automatically. I actually liked the newer version of Samantha and switched back. I think she sounds much clearer when typing and altogether more pleasant to listen to. Even though I have an iPhone 4, I think Apple gave a bit ofthe Siri personality to her voice this time, LOL. But that's just me. Bottom line is that you can only have one premium voice at a time. Would be nice for more, but I likewhat they've done so far.
If that is the case, then I am going to set my region to United Kingdom. I love the Daniel voice. Doesn't anyone have him in clear high quility? I would love the idea that you could have more than one voice uncompacted at a time.
I tried just resetting the region format, but after an hour noticed no change in the voice. Should I have also switched my language from English to British English? I am hoping not, as I get thrown off gard by it's suttle differences in keyboard layout. Thank you for any help.
