Apple has today released watchOS 9.1 and tvOS 16.1 to the public.

According to the release notes, watchOS 9.1 Includes the following changes:

  • Battery life extended during Outdoor Walking, Running, and Hiking Workouts with the ability to reduce the frequency of heart rate and GPS readings on Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) and Apple Watch Ultra
  • Music can download while Apple Watch is off charger using Wi-Fi or cellular
  • Matter, the new smart home connectivity standard, is supported enabling a wide variety of smart home accessories to work together across ecosystems

This update also includes bug fixes for your Apple Watch.

  • Voice feedback of average pace during Outdoor Run may be incorrect
  • Chance of rain estimates shown in Weather app may not match estimates on iPhone in current location
  • Hourly weather complication may label times as AM during PM hours
  • Time duration displayed during Strength Training Workout may not advance for some users
  • VoiceOver may not announce app name prior to reading notification when receiving multiple notifications

Apple does not typically provide release notes for tvOS updates. However, when it recently announced the release of the new Apple TV, Apple shared the following about new features and changes coming to tvOS 16:

This fall, new features coming to the Apple TV experience with tvOS 16 include updates to Siri that will make it even easier for customers to use their voice to control Apple TV and interact with the results. Siri on Apple TV features a complete redesign, and will be able to recognize each user’s voice, so they can easily access their movies, shows, music, games, and apps, and pick up where they left off. By using the Siri Remote and asking “What should I watch?” users can get tailored recommendations.

  • The more compact design of Siri on Apple TV allows users to quickly view results without leaving the action onscreen.
  • When wearing AirPods, users can say “Hey Siri” to search and enjoy a hands-free way to control Apple TV. Siri support on Apple TV has expanded to Chile, Finland, and South Africa, and will launch in Denmark, Luxembourg, and Singapore later this year, bringing Siri on Apple TV to 30 countries and regions.
  • With iCloud Shared Photo Library on Apple TV, everyone in the family will be able to enjoy everyone’s photos together on the big screen. Cross-device connectivity on Apple TV 4K will enable developers to integrate personalized experiences between their iPhone and Apple Watch apps with Apple TV.
  • Users can continue to enjoy SharePlay by starting a FaceTime session on iPhone or iPad and watching a TV show or movie on Apple TV to stay completely in sync — ensuring everyone catches a movie’s dramatic reveal or a show’s punchline at the same moment. With shared playback controls, including using the Siri Remote, anyone in the SharePlay session can play, pause, or jump ahead.

Hi.
I still have problem entering passcode on applewatch with voice over on. Using applewatch 7 and os 9.1. Problem is after turning the watch on, V O seems to not responding to any gestures, just reading the digits as you slide the finger around, no svipe and dubbel tap works.

If I turn on low power mode I I get the same issue with v o. . It takes no gestures like svipe and double tap.
So I going to turn passcode off and don't use low power mode. Wish there was a simple way to go back to earlier version.

/Tony

Hi Tony. If I understand you correctly, you're saying you don't hear anything when you double-tap the numbers when entering a password. this happened to me off and on for years with my Series 3 watch. I found that if I double-tapped each number, the password was entered correctly even though there was no sound to indicate that I had double-tapped the numbers. I hope that works for you too.
