hello. I often use the audio player in Safari on iOS to listen to MP3 files downloaded
from the Web. One of my frustrations in using this player is that I've not found a good way to
fast forward or rewind through such MP3 files. I just learned there is a control on the media
play screen which VoiceOver says is adjustable and which is called a scrubber. Visually, this
is a bead on an abacus bar that the sighted user can push left and right on the bar and, as
they're sliding, the current time pointer is shown in inutes and seconds on the screen.
With VoiceOver running, the hint is to
flick one finger up and down to adjust the value. The problem is that while the adjustment
works, it only adjusts in 5 second intervals, which is very tedius on long files. Also, the
VoiceOver manual says I can use the non-VoiceOver gesture to control the scrubber by single
finger double tapping and then holding my finger down, and, while holding my finger down, I
should be able to move the scrubber left and right on the screen. Numerous attempts to do this
result in, nothing. That is, I cannot get the scrubber to move using the visual scrubbing
gesture, and the 5 second increment with VoiceOver is very inefficient.
I'm currently using iOS 15.7, but I've been experiencing this problem since at least iOS 10.
What am I doing wrong, or is this actually a bug?

The gesture bypass (what you're trying to do) is a very finicky command. You need to do a highly specific thing:
1. Select the scrubber (or whatever).
2. Tap once.
3. Quickly follow up the tap with a hold and maintain it.
So it's a tap and release followed rapidly by a tap and hold. When it works it will make a specific sound effect, kind of like a stretching sound. You can then move your hold finger to perform the scrub.
