I am looking for tips, guides or podcast tutorials for using apple's native Maps app on IOS. I have found the Maps layout rather cluttered, accessible but not user-friendly, but I may be doing things wrong. For instance, I believe I should be able to quickly find the search field, whereas it presents a whole list of nearby locations on the screen and the search field is hard to find by swipe or touch. Secondly, once a search result is activated, finding the details of the location also appears to be a hit and miss case. Sometimes I find the details under a heading, sometimes not. Finally, I can find no way to go back to the previous screen after I land on the details page for a searched location. There appears no Back button at the top left, like it is in other native apps, , nor the two finger scrub works.
Any help would be great!

You're Not Alone
I've noticed this too. The native maps app seems to have a lot of good features, but I think it brings up a map of your area upon startup. I honestly haven't checked out that app in awhile so there may be changes, but this has also been my experience. I'm not currently that good with maps anyway. Hopefully someone else on here can shed more light on the subject.
