Can someone please give me some info, around changing up my IOS 16 Lock Screen with Voiceover? I gather that Thomas may be putting together some podcasts, around the new IOS 16 features, but just wondering if anyone has had any experience, experimenting with the Lock Screen feature yet? Many thanks.

How you ad a widget?

By Manuel on Friday, September 23, 2022 - 23:16

1. Triple-tap with one finger on the clock
2. Select "add" at the bottom right
3. Choose your preferred wallpaper and double-tap on it
4. Double-tap "Add Widget" in the middle of the screen.
5. Choose a widget and double-tap on it. If you're done, locate the "close" button in the middle right of the screen and double-tap on it.
6. Double-tap the "Add" or "done" button in the upper right corner of the screen.
7. Double-tap again on the now focused button (if you want to select the wallpaper for both the lock screen and the home screen which I'd recommend you), otherwise, double-tap on something like "customize home screen".
If you double-tapped the first button, you're done and can now choose your created lock screen by simply double-tapping on the name of it (The names are a bit strange and I have not found a way to change them). To choose the lock screen, set VoiceOver focus to the button in the middle of the screen and swipe left or right with three fingers, then you can locate the chosen lock screen and double-tap it. Otherwise, you can use swipe gestures to navigate through your lock screens, but this is the only aarea where swipe gestures will work reliably. If you want to add more widgets after creating the new lock screen, triple-tap with one finger on the clock again, set VoiceOver focus to the name of the lock screen, swipe down with one finger until you hear "customize" and double-tap. Now, you are back in the widgets mode where you can add, delete, or edit widgets. Deleting end editing widgets works as follows:
1. Set VoiceOver focus to a widget and swipe down until you hear edit and then double-tap.
2. To delete a widget, swipe down on a widget until you hear "delete" and then double-tap.

Make sure to avoid using swipe gestures as there are many accessibility issues in the 16.0 release currently. Rather locate the elements only by touching the screen and locating them directly. Also, keep in mind that each lock screen is connected to a wallpaper. Specifically, you first add a new wallpaper and then add/delete widgets to/from it. In the wallpaper gallery (which is the place you are in after double-tapping the add button at the bottom right), there can also be found already-configured lock screens which means that there are already added widgets to the wallpapers. You can then simply edit or delete them as you wish.
PS: The clock widget cannot be removed and the top widget has special preferences. To configure the clock or the top widget, simply double-tap on one of them and make your preferences in the overlay. When you're done, double-tap the "close button and confirm your changes with the "Done" button and the next first focused button as described above.

I already got my wall screen but just need to ad widgets. I got a sighted person to do so because doing it with VO is a headache. This is a major pain. Hope iOS 16.1 will fix it but Bella the cat has a better chance of running for president.

It works reliably as long as you use the way of directly locating the elements and then double-tapping on them. To change widgets of your wallpaper or add some, triple-tap with one finger on the clock, set VO focus to the lock screen name (e.g. collections in my case) and sipe down until you hear customize, then double-tap. Now you are in the widgets mode. Proceed with the steps described above to add widgets, delete or edit them.

I wish you could just add widgets to the wallpaper you already had set before the update. I had deleted the photo I used for my wallpaper and had to hunt it down online again.

Nice but does not work for me. Tried to follow but does not work. Getting a headache.

OK. Did it there. Was able to do so in setting. Does not work for me in the lock screen. Need a tall cold Frozen Margarita. Is to early for that. Sad.

Maybe it relies on the phone which is used? I've tested it on an iPhone 13. The steps I described worked perfectly fine. Yes, it would be more convincing if we could use swipe gestures for a better structure. Accessibility in this area of iOS 16 is unfortunately very poor. Hopefully, this will be improved in the near future.

Hi all, so, after listening to the WWDC program earlier on this week, I decided it was time I got my head around widgets, particularly after hearing some muse cases for them. I've tried to put some on my lock screen which are Calendar, Weather And I can fit no more, so maybe I need to change the size. However, here's my problem, my lock screen widget does not show me my next event in my calendar. After doing some googling, I see this is quite common. Am I the only one? I don't think so. I'm using an iPhone 13 mini running iOS 16.5. How many widgets can you have on your lock screen? I was hoping for more than just two, but it seems not. I gather you can resize them, but haven't figured out how to do that either, so if someone knows, I'd appreciate their tips and advice. Thanks
