Hi, I am looking for a bit of help for my father. He has a Focus 40 Blue 5th Gen braille display and uses it with the latest iPad. He updated his iPad and iPhone Se yesterday to IOS 15.6.1. His iPhone is working fine and he is able to use the braille without any problems. However, when he tries to use the iPad the braille is not showing up. When he puts in his passcode it is showing letters that correspond to the number entered but does open the iPad. When he gets to the Homepage it does not show any braille for icons but can use Ciri to open apps but again once the app opens no braille appears. The only thing that shows up on the display is “Double Click” when on the Homepage. Has anyone else had a similar problem or does anyone have any ideas as to how we can solve this problem so he can get back to using his iPad?
Thanks for any help.

Hmmmm. I'm not sure, but...
Ok. I don't know if this could be the problem. But, I'm not sure if the way that I'll give you to fix it. As I don't have a Focus 40, I have a Brailliant 40X. But, it's worth looking into. Here's the problem, or at least what I think it is.
I think that there's some sort of connection issues with the BT. connection. What it is I don't know. But, I have had weird issues before, with my display. Now, here's the 2 ways I have to fix it. One way you can for sure do. The other one, I'm not sure if it's available on the Focus 40, but, it's worth either doing if it is, or looking into and seeing if it's possible. Go to the connected devices section or whatever it's called on the Focus 40. Then, go down and find the reconnect devices or bluetooth. Then, activate it. It will disconnect the device, and deactivate bluetooth. Then, after a few seconds, later, bluetooth will be activated again, and the connection will be re-estabilished. It may take a few seconds.
The other thing you can do is unpair the device and repair it from the display.
The last thing you can do, is forget the display and Ipad. First, forget the display in the Voiceover settings. Then, go to the bluetooth settings on the display and delete the Ipad from the display's bluetooth settings. Then switch then both off. Wait a few seconds, then turn the devices back on one at a time. Then, wait a few minutes for the display and Ipad to reboot, then start setting up the pairing. You'll be doing it from scratch. So you'll need to go to the Voiceover settings as well as make the Focus discoverable.
I hope this helps, and good luck to both of you. Because I'm guessing what's happening is that the only thing that's showing up is braille display. At least that's what I'm thinking it is if I understand you correctly. Because I have had that happen to me many times before. If not, I appologize.
the other thing
The other thing you could do, is clear profile. If you or your Dad are comfortable doing it yourself, then go for it. If not, I'm sure Freedom Scientific's tech support team can and will walk you through how to do it.
You'll need to reset your settings again, and log into BARD. Bookshare and NFB Newsline if your father has accounts with either of these services or if those services are supported on the Focus 40.
Try changing the braille…
Try changing the braille table to something else, say for example UEB or UK English braille for input and output. It is not an issue with the connection as you have braille output whenever you enter your passcode. So just simply change your braille input and output table from Accessibility>VoiceOver>Braille
