Apple Beta Releases

There is a change in Eloquence which is a long time coming! It now pronounces most of words concerning Apple products correctly. Example is iPhone, among many others. There is also a change in Alex. He sounds like he does on macOS for a while. These are quite wonderful!

It seems like for some reason, Eloquence can't handle mixed case words correctly.
I suppose they manually added pronunciations for IPhone, iCloud, iOS, and words like these, but generally this seems to be broken.
For example, US is pronounced as us.
This could also be generally broken though since this US / us problem exists with Alex as well.

Apart from the Mixed case words issue, it seems to me that a higher sample rate should be used for Eloquence. It sounds rather boxy and we know that with Eloquence higher sample rates has been possible on Windows, Android and Symbian. As for its mispronunciations, this sounds more of a dream but I wish we could import an advanced Eloquence dictionary set like the following: https://github.com/thunderdrop/IBMTTSDictionaries

Eloquence has a tinney sound when compared to eloquence on Windows and Android. I’m sure when Apple reads this thread, they will enhance its quality for a second time. As for mixt case words, this seems to be a problem with Eloquence not just on Apple platforms, but Windows and Android as well. If Apple can fix this longstanding problem on their platforms, that would be amazing, and would probably entice Windows and Android users to switch from Android and Windows to iOS and iPadOS, and macOS respectively.

Interesting. IT works well when I use my Windows PC with jaws and eloquence. It has no issues saying US and not us. Might be an apple issue.

Hi, the US thing happens with some iOS Voices.
it's happens when this word doesn't written in uppercase letters.

submit feedback about the dictionary link Amir posted please via the feed back app. If they would either add this dictionary or allow us to import it all would be solved as far as how it speaks things. We have a chance to impact this early.

Hello,

I use the Belgian dutch voice ellen in iOS 16 and it is very bad in this beta version. In iOS 15 it sounds much better. The size of the installation file in iOS 15 was 45 MB and in iOS 16 it is 52 MB. But strange enough the quality of the voice is not better.

Unfortunately, iOS 16 by now includes much worse premium versions of German voices. The enhanced versions are also not as good as in iOS 15. I hope they'll fix this by the final release this fall.

Hi.
Polish voices are now really bad, especially the new Ewa version, that sounds really weirdly and I can not understand it, even as a native speaker. the normal Zosia is understandable, but it mispronounces stuff badly, I want the dictionary to go back to the version from IOS 15.

I have never heard of either Eddie or Flo. Anyway, if you choose Flo, the speech speeds up even though you've done nothing to speed up the speech. Personally I would not use Flo, but for those who choose to use it, there you go.

This has been reported also.

I've a similar issue, which others have with Dutch Belgium, and German voices. I use Dutch Claire. The quality is worse in comparison with IOS 15 and earlier. I did a report to Apple allready. I hope they will fix it.

The Polish voices are mispronouncing stuff, and sometimes apps that are using speech are killed, like tdsr.

Hi. I see a lot of people experience problems with voices, personally as with Polish I don't find any issues, I use Zosia enhanced. But what I can tell about Russian Katya enhanced version is that it was made worse. Now it reads English words with the really strong English accent like a Russian person hardly tries to imitate someone speaking English with imitating the accent. That's horrible! Katya was my favorite voice and I cannot believe I won't use it's high quality enhanced version anymore! Non of the other Russian voices have this issue, even Katya compact doesn't have that! It seems like multilingual addition voices were imported from code factory!
