Touch to Wake

I have a new iPad mini 6th generation. Either I'm not understanding this feature or there is some kind of bug. My touch to unlock doesn't work. I can press the power button and it will recognize my finger print and unlock the device. I can also use toch to unlock when the iPad is on locked screen but won't work if the screen is asleep. I've factory reset the unit and I do have the touch to unlock turnned on in accessability. Verry Verry strange. I'm not sure if I should replace or wait it out until the next iPad os update. Guess I learned my lesson about being in the beta program but won't get in to that here of course.

Are you talking about Rest to open? I may be confused, the only touch to wake I know of is you can tap the screen to wake it up instead of the power button.
Rest to Open allows once the screen is awake, you can place your finger on the fingerprint sensor and it will unlock the rest of the way, saving having to return to the screen and swipe I guess.
It seems unlikely your iPad hardware is defective, for what it's worth.

sorry for the confusion.
I did mean rest to unlock, not to wake.
This is my first iPad and am still getting used to it. Not much different than my 13 Pro but enough that there is a learning curve. I don't see an option for face id like the phone either.
Had this thing less than a week and have about 4 or 5 hours screen time on it.

No, the iPad Mini does not have FaceID. Apple devies are either FaceID or TouchID, none have both even though that'd be nice.

I think its 15.6
I just thought you could rest your pinger on the power button and it would wake the screen and unlock the device at the same time. If I press the power button, it will wake up the iPad and unlock everything.
I just wanted to post this here before making a trip to the Apple store. I very well might have misunderstood how the touch feature works which is very likely.
Thanks
