Hi there. On Friday, I finally decided to take the plunge and get an IPhone 13. I won’t fault it, the 13 is a really great phone. But why, with the 12 and 13 being similar in design, is the 12 sound quality different to the 13? I understand they’re different thicknesses and all, but come on. Is there a way, other than changing mono and stereo sound levels, to make it sound like the 12? If you do have to change mono and stereo levels, what is the best configuration to use? Thanks for any help in advance.

I've never had an iPhone 12, but between iPhone 11 and iPhone 13, for example, there is definitely a difference when it comes to sound quality. For me, the iPhone 13 sounds more natural, whereas the 11 has a strange emphasis above 5-6 KHz. Overall, the iPhone 13 is louder than the 11 and has more of that mid "bass". I find that the 13 has the best speakers so far in this size. Of course, the Pro Max is better but it's much bigger.

Hi. I've noticed the iphone 13's speakers are a bit mid-heavy, so that may be what you're hearing. If it sounds really off, it could be a defect. Best way to tell is put up a recording here, if you can.

It's def an improvement over the 11 as @HEXAGON said. That phone had this really weird DSP thing going on where it boosted the brassiness of masculine voices to unpleasant levels, so different tuning across iphone generations is a thing. You might just need some time to adjust.

Before my iPhone 13, I owned an iPhone SE 2. I found that the sound has been better than the described sound of the iPhone 11, but it has less "bass" and also semms to boost the high frequencies a bit. Overall, the SE 2 has clearer sound than the 11 and is rather comparable with the sound of the iPhone 13.

I definitely think that the speakers on the iPhone 13 sound a lot better than the ones that were on my iPhone XR. I don’t know if it is just me, but the sound stage sounds a lot wider.
