volume Fluctuation with Blue Tooth Device Type Speaker

Hi all. When I pair my iPhone to my Google Home (both my original Google Home and my Google Nest Audio) via blue tooth, and set the device type to "speaker," VO comes through my phone speakers as it should. But the volume of VO fluctuates really wildly from the normal volume I have it set at to extremely loud. I can't figure out any rhyme or reason to when it happens, but it happens constantly. Anybody else experiencing this? Any fixes? Thanks a lot!

I have in the past paired both an iPad and an iPhone to Bluetooth speakers.

These have been speakers from several different brands, including Amazon echo devices and Google devices. For quite some time I have also been experiencing the issue.

No matter what volume you have your device at. VoiceOver every now and then comes really loudly through your device speaker. This only happens when audio is playing.

If you stop the audio, it does not happen, even if the device is still connected via Bluetooth. It’s a very strange and frustrating bug.

This is an annoying bug with Bluetooth audio devices that has existed for a long time now. A few iOS versions back, the audio destination option also disappeared from the rotor as a selectable option despite being available in VO settings. You can sort of mitigate the issue by turning off VoiceOver sounds which will prevent VO speech from randomly switching volume during basic navigation while connected to a Bluetooth speaker. VO speech volume will jump for a brief moment when initiating audio playback, however if this is known, one can quickly place two fingers on the screen to prevent this.

I reported this to Apple back in iOS 14, and it still exists. Seems like it's not very high on their priority list. I usually end up putting a thumb over one of my phone's speakers so I don't deafen myself.

I've got this one too, and it's VERY annoying, and @ times, painful. So, I'll get VO. fluctuating whether audio is playing or not. So, I turn off speech. This helps the voice be quiet. So, here's the question that I have. So, now, I turn off speech. Well, I'm thinking about trying to turn my sounds off too while in Bt. mode. Question is, will that effect my braille display's ability to work? Because, sense I have to deal with this annoying, painful, nasty bug, I turn speech off and let braille do the heavy lifting. Can I still do this? Thank you! :-)

Hi,

Yes a known issue. There are two steps to solve this. First as already stated turn off voiceover sounds. This will solve most of the issue. However, notifications will still probably send the volume up. So to stop this when you are using audio as well as turning off sounds use the mute button on the side of you're phone. Switch it off. notifications will now not raise the volume. Just remember to turn it back on if required.

It's been this way since iOS 12 maybe so I have given up hope. I either use airplay to my Sonos speakers or I just use Android honestly for bluetooth.

On my Samsung I can actually separate an app of my choosing and have it play on the bluetooth speaker while muy screenreader stays on my phone. Its awesome, and makes me realize how bad bluetooth is on Apple in general. Not to mention several different bluetooth options that are more high in sound resolution than AAC that Apple offers. Anyway not the best help, but I just wanted to complain. Not that they care or anything. I have submitted so many recordings of this issue I just stopped since they obviously don't care or can't fix it.

I'm having the same issue as well. Really annoying.

Same problem here when connecting iPhone to Amazon Echo devices. Some day someone will blow out an eardrum and then maybe Apple will fix it. This problem has been around for a long, long time!

I am curious, does the Mac also have this problem?

Since the two systems are slowly merging it would seem that bugs will eventually carry over from one OS to the other.

I don't use a Mac, but I still am curious if Mac OS would eventually get this bug.

I have my Voiceover sounds off, and I still get this bug when playing new audio from time to time, but a quick two finger tap on the screen shuts up speech, or if it's late at night, and you don't want to wake people up, find the play button and turn off speech before you hit play.
