Breathe slower and less... about 6.5 seconds on the inhale, 6.5 seconds on exhale.

Or, read this great book.
"Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art" by James Nester.

Do you really need an app?

If you have an Apple Watch you don't need an additional app. Can't help you otherwise.

will do what you told me.

Hi, I’m afraid I can’t help with an app specifically for breathing however I’ve been pretty deep into meditation and yoga in the past, currently trying to get back because the benefits are just life changing but needs discipline to start with which I’m lacking. Anyway, When I was first getting into it I found for breathing what worked well was counting in my head. As the simplest example I’d breath in counting to 10 then out counting to 10, 5 if you aren’t comfortable with 10 to start with. You want to ensure you are really filling your lungs and really emptying them, try to focus on how it feels in your chest while you do this. How do the muscles move inside you? How your stomach goes in and out, the feeling of fully empty lungs then completely full, how does the air feel in the back of your throat or at the tip of your nose. I also used to imagine the numbers in my mind like a black background with white numbers. The idea is to fill your entire concious awareness with the act of breathing, its so powerful when you can do it properly which I can’t anymore. You’ll feel the most incredible piece and calmness. I did anyway. The only problem for me was my sneezes became so powerful that sometimes I’d lift up off the sofa my muscles got so strong which is hilarious but a little annoying if you have to sneeze in public. Lol. There are loads of other things you can do but the most important thing is to keep your focus on those things I mensioned. Every single time you wonder off into thought just accept that you did and go back to focussing on the numbers, the feeling, the counting. It will happen all the time to start with but just accept it happened and go back. If you are struggling with anxiety there is a little trick I learned which is pretty magical, try breathing in for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 6 then out for 8. It activates a nerve pathway that relaxes a lot of systems in your body and it really does work. Your brain assumes that if you are breathing calmly then you can’t be in any danger so it stands down the emergency systems that cause long term stress and damage. Its such powerful stuff if you can stick with it. I really need to put the time in myself, I have no excuse because I know how incredible it can be. I saw your request about a week or so ago but didn’t have an app. As nobody has come up with anything I thought I’d write you a little introduction, apologies its not iOS oriented but as that doesn’t really seem to be a thing I hoped I could at least help with what you are trying to achieve. Maybe you could set a 15 minute timer on your phone or something, now it’s iOS related. Lol. Good luck.
