what going on?
So i am trying this title i played the demo on Steam ages ago. Now, what is the point of the camera and when i walk, i only hear like one footstep and that's it? what's going on? also, spotlight keeps activating, i have disabled voiceover.
would like to see
I would like to see if there have any quick demonstration of this game on podcast or youtube
not for me
While I appreciate that developers create these games. They should allow them to work with Voice over. I will not use games that don't work without voice over. I have issues with the touch screen and use a bluetooth keyboard. If you allowed voice over to be used then I could play games like this one.
The game works with VoiceOver
If you read carefully in the description, it says that the game does not need voiceover not that it doesn't work.
In fact, I just tested it after reading your comment and the only thing you need to do is to set voiceover to direct touch.
Hope that works for you.
Cheers.
The Name of the Game
Sorry but couldn’t the developer think of a different name for the game?
New title required
Hi, I agree, this title is a bit off in my opinion, I can’t explain it any other way. Please consider changing it! Lost in blindness was never my idea of fun. Lol
Struggling to get very far with this
I like the idea of this but I'm struggling a bit. I've got as far as trying to creep around some kind of dog lizard thing. I keep hearing my companion's voice and moving towards it, but she then just moves to the other side. I repeat this - a lot - and eventually we meet up. And then I need to repeat it. And again. And I seem to be playing this bit for what feels like forever, and eventually the dog thing just gets me and I have to start over. I'm not sure if this is because I've just taken too long (so, so..... long) or if I am just messing up.
Am I missing something? It would be OK if I didn't have to repeat the entire sequence again every time.
For the record and Re. To mr. Oliver Kennett
I tried this game because I was curious and I didn’t like it one bit. Of course I appreciate the work and efforts of the developer but it is just not for me. If you want some good and brain exercising games try DD heroes and BC 4000. They are both awesome games and this god of a developer, instead of trying to make boring games for the blind, has succeeded in making mainstream games accessible to the blind. He is constantly improving both accessibility and the games them selves besides. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I am hugely impressed by the skilled work of dr. Jianfeng Wu.
Finally I must disagree with Oliver Kennett on a philosophical basis. Blindness is not normal. For me it is a genetic mutation which in my humble opinion must be erased from the gene pool. If I want to be honest with myself, that makes me closer to a mutant than normal. :)
No apology needed
I wasn’t offended in the least not even for one second. Thankfully ideas are free. Furthermore you belittled nothing at all. I was just saying that I don’t think that blindness is a normal condition that’s all. There is a counter argument however, by which One could say that since blindness is in nature it’s normal. That’s why I disagreed on a philosophy basis. Anyway, food for thought and probably a discussion for another forum :)
I don’t know if this game can be considered as a mainstream game. In contrary I am sure that the two games I mentioned above can be described as such.
Have you tried them?
"blind" games
I've been a PS4 gamer since it came out, but had to retire about a year ago because of my eyes. Since then, I can only play the last of us part 2 (which if you can cope with the brutal and occasionally depressing setting is unbelievable). Coming to the iPhone as a games platform is a tad underwhelming.
I'm not sure if this game in particular is that great (unless someone manages to put me on the right path!) but I'm glad that these sorts of games are being made. The more games like this that exist, the more there is a market for blind people in gaming, and the more games like the last of us 2 might be viable. I get that it could be seen as being a little patronising, but maybe I'm just desperate, but it doesn't bother me too much. But all our circumstances and personalities are different.
I'd actually like to see the last of us use spatial audio more (maybe it needs the ps5 to do that) as an alternative to the auto-nav system. But in any case, games like that and - to a lesser extent - this do fill me with a small bit of optimism for the future.
The name "lost in blindness" does feel a bit like a commentary on my life in general but also my experience of playing the game. (Which is why I've stopped for the moment). Games with "blind" in the title signify to me that I have a chance of playing them at least.
Regarding BC400, I tried it and it's amazing to have something like that accessible. It did feel a tad overwhelming though. I have played and enjoyed Civilisation as a sighted player, but am not sure if I can cope playing it with just VoiceOver. But it's on my list to give it a try and I'm really grateful that it's an option. I usually like to game as a way to switch off the brain, so anything that requires a lot of learning or effort tends to put me off.
I'm still yet to find a game on the iPhone that fully clicks with me. But I think it's sensiblee to support devs who put the effort in, and help guide them if they don't always get it right.
I run a group that reviews…
