How do I get my Mac to stop automatically speaking my incoming messages? I don't mind being notified, but I don't want my business broadcast to the world just because I'm not near the Mac to press control to shut it up when a message rolls in. By messages I mean iMessages or texts. Thanks.

Either play around in the voiceover utility, verbosity>announcements, or go to notifications to play around with mail (which is in the table), or turn on do not disturb, or (sorry, ran out of time)

system preferences > notifications & focus > messages, set preview to never.

System Prefs>notifications and Focus
Navigate to the table and choose Messages.
Set alert style to none. It should currently be on Banners.
Tab until you hear Play sound for notifications. Be sure this is checked so you are still alerted.

Second method is to mute the conversation you don't want broadcasting your business. Messages will still come in, but you will not be notified.
