Apple has today released iOS 15.2.1 and iPadOS 15.2.1.

According to Apple's release notes, these updates resolve the following two issues:

  • Messages may not load photos sent using an iCloud Link
  • Third-party CarPlay apps may not respond to input

As these appear to be minor updates, our expectation is that they do not contain any accessibility changes for blind and low vision users; however, if you notice any changes, improvements or regressions in your own use of the software, please post a comment below with your findings.

iOS 15.2.1 and iPadOs 15.2.1 are available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update) via Finder on a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, or via iTunes on a PC or Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier.

Before updating, we strongly recommend making a full and complete backup of your device (either locally or in iCloud, depending on personal preference). This will ensure that, in the unlikely event that something goes wrong during the update process, you will have a current backup on hand in case a device restore becomes necessary. Also, if using OTA update, we recommend plugging your device into a power source for the duration of the download/installation process, so as to prevent the unlikely event of your battery going dead during the update.

More information on how to update the software on your device is available on this Apple Support page.

Hi,
Is anyone aware of a fix regarding the annoying issue where the braille display randomly disconnects?

Sometimes, UK Siri makes a very strange sound after having installed this update. it's a bit like she's bleeping out a swear word. perhaps she is - perhaps Apple has changed the Voiceover part of the accessibility dialog in particular so it is riddled with profanities which Siri Female thinks I am too young to hear, but I doubt it. I have no idea why this is happening. it seems to be quite random. No problems with any of the other voices, thankfully. I'd be interested to see if anyone can replicate this. A place where it seems to occur fairly reliably is reading the date on the lock screen.

If you have not done so, you may consider restarting your phone after the install of 15.2.1. If that doesn't fix it, perhaps removing and reinstalling Siri UK Female as a voice, then restarting, will work.

Neither restarting nor deleting and then redownloading made any difference. I give up. I'm afraid the gender diversity section of the Bingo Little Voiceover usage report is going to have to take a hit as a consequence. it's Siri Male all the way, with Daniel as an alternative in certain situations.

It’s only started this afternoon but whenever I type a message either in the iMessage app or messenger or anywhere that requires me to type. I get the annoying message that repeats over and over again “the top prediction is“ it’s really annoying and it just keeps repeating it all the time. I have restarted the phone and I have turned off the prediction text in settings and keyboard but it hasn’t done any good.
