I don't see any instructions, so I don't know how the game works. Can someone tell me what you're supposed to do?

By Unregistered User (not verified) on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 00:13

A lot of useless games for the blind.
As for me certainly.
Just for gaining money not for fun or need.
It was just my opinion.
Cheers!

Hi,
When you open the game, tap the title and you should see a set of instructions.

By Jo Billard on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 00:13

Thanks. I will try that.

By Jo Billard on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 00:13

Maybe I have the wrong Word Letters app, because there's no title. It was also advertised as accessible and it probably is, if I only understood the rules. I'm going to try again using the link provided here.

By Jo Billard on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 00:13

OK, it's the same game. but I don't understand the instructions. I'm double tapping on the characters given, because that is how I understand the instructions, but I'm getting an error sound. I don't know what that could be, because as far as I can tell, I'm doing exactly what the instructions say to do.

Hi,

I havenā€™t exactly figured it out myself either, but the basic concept is this.

You have to change one of the letters, so that both sets still make words.
Does that make sense?

By Jo Billard on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 00:13

Thanks for your help though. I hope I can get this figured out, because I think it's a game I would like.

Hi! I think I understand how to play Accessible Word Ladders, even though I'm not always good at it. Basically, you must change the letters one by one to progress from one word to another: this is done by double-tapping the letter you want to change, then finding the letter you want to replace it with elsewhere on the screen. You start with two words on the screen, and it'll take several turns to progress from the first of those to the second. Here's an example of how it works, changing "dog" to "cat": change the G of "dog" to a T to make "dot", change the D to a C to make "cot", then change the O to an A to make "cat". Of course, word ladder games can be far less simple than my example, as I have discovered in the app, but, challenging as this game can be, I like it.

By Jo Billard on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 00:13

Thanks. The problem I'm having with the app is that both sets of characters are exactly the same, so what am I supposed to change? Also, the characters I'm seeing now don't even spell a word.

By Clare Page on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 00:13

As far as I can tell, there is a reason why words show up twice: first of all you see the whole word, then the letters are separated into buttons which allow individual letters to be changed. I can't explain why sets of letters that aren't words show up in the game: maybe they are simply words we don't know, but I can't be sure of that.

By Yvonnezed on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 00:13

Ok, let's see if I can explain this. In every round of this game, you start with two words. The confusing part is that they're spoken twice, first it says the word, like test, t-e--s-t. Then you flick right and each letter is a button, so you can tap on it and change it. If you keep flicking right, you come to the second word and it's buttons. So you might have test and mint or something.

The aim of the game is to tap a letter in one of the words and change it, but what you get has to also be a word. So you could change test to tent but probably not tost.

So the idea with this one is you've got two word ladders, and eventually by changing letters in both words, they end up the same.

I'm honestly not sure if the starting groups are always words - I'm beginning to think possibly not, although the problem with these word games is they all use slightly different word lists, so what's valid in one isn't always in another, and, I've certainly never used some of the words I've had accepted as valid in some of these games, šŸ˜

Hi,
Iā€™m stuck as well.
I'm on the first one, and my letters are as follows:
top line: b, e,a, u
bottom line: p e a n

What do I do with that?

By Yvonnezed on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 00:13

Well, I'd change the u at the end of the top line to an n, and the p at the beginning of the bottom line to a b. At that point they're both bean, so you win.

By KE8UPE on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 00:13

Hi,

Ok, I did as the previous commenter suggested, & it worked, but Iā€™m still confused.
If I'm understanding correctly, the word on the bottom "must" match the word that's on the top?
I think a podcast or some kind of tutorial would be extremely useful here.

By Yvonnezed on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 00:13

Right. You win when both words are the same. The only other rule is that when you change a letter in a word, the result has to be a word.

By Jo Billard on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 00:13

Both the top and bottom are A B B Y S. First of all. they're both exactly the same, I can double tap on any of those letters, and that isn't a word. If there's a misspelling, then this makes it more confusing.

By Yvonnezed on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 00:13

Remember that, after you double tap on a letter, you then have to select a letter to replace it with.

On the other hand, I can't think of any words off the top of my head for that puzzle either, ā˜ŗļø. To get a new puzzle, either double tap and hold or triple tap the new button.

And although I haven't seen it produce two identical groups before, I can say for sure the groups you start with don't have to be words. The one I just got had no vowels at all, ā˜ŗļø.

Just remember, the idea ismt to change one word until it matches the other. You'll have to change both words in some way. For example, mmy puzzle was c o t t cott for the top and n o s y nosy for the bottom. So i change the n in nosy to a c and get cosy. Then I change the t in cott to an s and get cost. Change the other t in cott to y, and they're both cosy, so they match.

I'm solving a lot of these, but some of the intermediary words aren't words. Dare I ask if some of the languages are mixed up? For example, the word "orro" was accepted. I'm playing in english; isn't that a Spanish word? I love the concept of the game, but I'm still confused about whether every step must be a recognized word.

By Yvonnezed on Thursday, February 24, 2022 - 00:13

As far as I can figure, other than the first word, yes, they have to be what the app considers a real word. I just think the dictionary it's using is a bit weird.
