Greetings.
For some time now, after I finish making or finish receiving a phone call, Facetime, etc., VoiceOver lags considerably and it won’t stop until I do a strange thing. To stop the lagging, I have to initiate another phone call, then hang up.
The issue is almost certainly with VoiceOver speech and not my whole phone lagging. I have some vision and can see things happening on the screen when I double-tap, say, an app. When I double-tap that app, the app activates but without the speech catching up for a long time. I also can see my VoiceOver Large Cursor moving at its normal rate, again, even though the speech takes some time to “catch up” to it.
I have tried turning off and restarting VoiceOver, but, after I do this, the lag is still there. Again, it only goes away when I do the trick I mentioned above.
Is there a way to fix this in some other way permanently so that it doesn’t happen again? What on Earth could be going on?

The only way I know to fix…
The only way I know to fix that is to induce Siri, then either set it a task or not. I usually ask the time. Either way, the phone goes back to normal.
Strange solution worked for me
Hi folks,
I ran into a simmilar issue some time ago. Initiating a new phone call was the only way to get out of VO not being responsive.
I discovered that it was an issue with my iPhone cover apparently blocking the proximity sensor messing up VO. Yes, really, no joke.
After I removed the cover things worked as expected.
