Alternative to native Mail app for iPad

iOS and iPadOS

Hi everyone
I hope I haven’t missed a similar question elsewhere in the forum, but if I have I apologise.
I had an iPad Mini 3 for a couple of years and never got my head around it. Now I have a Mini 5 and I’ve taken the step of buying a keyboard case to go with it. This has made learning and using the iPad so much more easier and much more enjoyable. I finally understand how to use containers, and get rather grumpy when even bits of iOS don’t use them.
I’ve just about got to grips with the settings app, which basically forces me to use containers or headings to navigate it.
One area which refuses to play nice with me is the Mail app. I really don’t like seeing the list of messages on one side of the screen, and an open message on the other. Containers seem to either work erratically or not at all, and I find myself having to swipe my way up from the bottom of beyond to get to my message list.
IF anyone can recommend a good mail app that doesn’t display information in this manner , with good search capabilities and that can handle multiple e-mail accounts I’d love to know your thoughts and recommendations. Thnks in advance.

You are describing the split screen feature which is used to display things like mail, messages, and settings. From a VoiceOver perspective it is a nightmare and I am not a fan of it either. I don't think there is a way to force apps to not be split screen on the iPad. If there is I have not learned of an option. It would be nice if there was some type of accessibility setting to switch off split screen mode for apps on the iPad. I don't think there would be another mail client that doesn't use the split screen feature on the iPad, but again I could be wrong.

Thanks for the reply. Yes its a total pain. I know there are some apps that don’t use this split screen feature, but can’t name any off the top of my head. I’ll be interested to see what other people say. Thanks again.

I use Outlook because of other features that I like better but unfortunately it also has the split screen on the iPad. One thing you can try is when you want to go back to your message list touch the top left corner of the screen. If you want back into that specific email touch the bottom right corner. After you get to the side of the screen you need to be on then use your keyboard like you normally would. It’s not a perfect solution but it works most of the time.

Hello,
If you turn the iPad to portrait mode the split screen will go away. I might be odd but I do like the split mode. My brain just likes working this way. LOL.

What are good mail apps? With the ability to use 3rd party mail apps in iOS 14 I would like to know besides outlook.

If the OP is using an iPad keyboard, meaning one that is attached and not Bluetooth, it’s going to stay in landscape I think. Okay now I wonder if you can lock it into portrait I will have to try that though that would cause new problems of it’s own.

Split screen does not go away in portrait mode on an iPad. My iPad is locked in portrait mode and if an app such as Settings or Mail supports split screen it is always presented in split screen mode.

Thank you all for your comments. I can confirm that Split Screen does not go away in Portrait Mode. I had my old iPad Mini 3 in Portrait Mode and Split Screen was still the only way forward.
Thanks also for the navigation tips for the mail app. I am already using these, but was generally hoping for a better way.

I was looking for the alternative e-mail client for my iPad too' Especially for one with good keyboard and Braille support. Gmail from Google is the best solution so far. I don’t like this app very much on Android, but on my iPad it works pretty well. You can configure as many accounts on it as you need, navigation is easy and all main function you expect from a decent e-mail client are supported.

Hi. I use Outlook. It is really good in my opinion. :-)
