Apple has today released iOS 14.7. This appears to be a relatively minor update for a single dot release, primarily focusing on security fixes and under-the-hood performance improvements.

According to the release notes from Apple, this update fixes a bug which could cause braille displays to show invalid information while composing Mail messages.

At the time of posting, we are unaware of any additional fixes, enhancements or regressions for blind and low vision users.

As we always stress, we can make no claims on the completeness or accuracy of our testing. We are only a small team, and it is simply impossible for us to test all devices, configurations, applications, and use cases. Accordingly, to help us ensure that the information on this page is as complete and accurate as possible, please let us know in the comments of any fixes; enhancements; or regressions that you find in your own use of iOS 14.7.

Release Notes

iOS 14.7 includes the following improvements and bug fixes for your iPhone:

  • MagSafe Battery Pack support for iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • Apple Card Family adds the option to combine credit limits and share one co-owned account with an existing Apple Card user
  • Home app adds the ability to manage timers on HomePod
  • Air quality information is now available in Weather and Maps for Canada, France, Italy, Netherlands, South Korea, and Spain
  • Podcasts library allows you to choose to see all shows or only followed shows
  • Share playlist menu option missing in Apple Music
  • Dolby Atmos and Apple Music lossless audio playback may unexpectedly stop
  • Battery service message that may have disappeared after reboot on some iPhone 11 models is restored
  • Braille displays could show invalid information while composing Mail messages

How to update

iOS 14.7 is available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update) via Finder on a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, or via iTunes on a PC or Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier.

Before updating, we strongly recommend making a full and complete backup of your device (either locally or in iCloud, depending on personal preference). This will ensure that, in the unlikely event that something goes wrong during the update process, you will have a current backup on hand in case a device restore becomes necessary. Also, if using OTA update, we recommend plugging your device into a power source for the duration of the download/installation process, so as to prevent the unlikely event of your battery going dead during the update.

More information on how to update the software on your device is available on this Apple Support page.

So no hope for solving the screen recognition bug of previous updates?

By Carlos Taylor on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 - 03:23

By turning screen recognition off and back on again, I was able to resolve the problems I had with it in iOs 14.6.

I like the AQI in the weathe rapp. It matches what Environment Canada is saying for my area. Air quality warnings are important to me, as I have a chronic lung condition.

I restarted my iPad and it’s still on 14.6. What else can I do?

Did you go to settings where it says download and install? That's under general, then software update.

It's not a major release. Just wait awhile and it should show up or like someone said, if you are chomping at the bit, go to settings.

hey, i didn’t get an update to 14.7 either, I have an 11 inch iPad Pro M1. I’ve tried restarting too but it just says I’m on 14.6 and my iPad is up to date. i wonder if they’re releasing iPad OS separate to iOS? Most places I’ve looked say IOS TV OS and the speaker one updated to 14.7, but don’t mention iPad OS. Oh well its no big deal, only a minor update but still a little annoying if it won’t update for some reason.

Just had a look on macrumors and it stated “ An earlier version of this article said that Apple had released both iOS 14.7 and iPadOS 14.7. It does not appear that Apple has released an iPadOS 14.7 update for iPads, which is unusual as these updates have never previously been separated.” So I’m guessing wait a few days.

Ever since I updated I do not have a status bar. Nothing I do will get me to the status bar. I also cannot open the control center or the notification center. I have restarted the phone a couple of times. Running an iPhone 11. Any suggestions? This is the first time this has happened to me.

I just updated my phone a few days ago, and everything's working as advertised thus far. Has anybody noticed that when in the settings app, VoiceOver still sometimes loses focus when hitting the "Back" button to return to the main settings screen? A minor nuisance, but I'm just curious. Also, when on the screen where voices are chosen for VoiceOver some of them are now dimmed. This could be one of those hidden features that I haven't discovered yet though. Anyway, 14.7 seems like yet another good update.

After updating, I had to thin totally redo my watch. I updated my phone and my watch. After that, voiceover did not perform properly on the watch. I unpaired my watch and then re-paired it again. So far, this appears to have resolved my issues but we will see.
