Hi All, Last week, I got the iPhone Mini. Love it! Thanks to this site and you guys, I was able to set up face ID and make custom gestures. My question though: Is there a new feature that if you just touch the screen that it wakes. I turned off raise-to-wake and if I touch the screen with my fingers, it wakes. Even just putting it in my pocket can cause this. Is there some setting I can turn off so phone won't wake unless I push the side button? Thanks.
Comments
Nope
Sorry to be the barer of bad news, I kind of like that, and I don't. If you think about it, there's no Home button to push, so the screen has to be activated somehow. Although, be careful powering down the phone because you will like me, call 911. I have very terrible service and I managed to do it twice. Bless the people who weren't upset. I forgot, to power it down, press in the volume up and side buttons until it gives you haptic feedback. Or if you have that off, then it will say SOS or slide to power off. someone did tell me another way but i've only gotten it to work once, I keep taking screen shots.
yes you can
Ignore the first comment. Go to settings, accessibility, touch, and uncheck the option touch to activate, my phone is set to Spanish, so maybe they aren't the exact translated labels, but I hope you will find the option.
Once you uncheck this option, you will need to unlock the screen by pressing the side button, the same used to lock the screen.
It worked
Thanks so much Alan! Problem solved. Here's what I did: Go to settings, Accessibility, touch, and then you'll see "Tap to wake" and then you can turn this off or on. Hope this will help someone else.
It does help me
Hi. I didn't know that was a thing. Now normally I was getting annoyed at the screen waking. However when I just tested it, with the touch set to off, I noticed something. You press the side button in and your face ID should activate. You still have to swipe up fromthe bottom of the screen. Now when I have the display to wake, it seems to unlock faster as well as completely unlock, not just stay on the lock screen if that makes sense. anyway if you are happy that's all that matters.
Learning
Nice thing. You always learn something here. I knew about it but did not recall where it was. Glad someone did so.
Reply to Siobhan.
Hi Siobhan, Another helpful thing is I made two custom gestures. One for the Home screen and another for the app switcher. Although I know how to do the one-finger swipe up from the bottom for these things, the custom gestures are even faster. There's a great podcast on how to do this here on Applevis.
