VoiceOver Not Working with Youtube on iPhone

Good afternoon,

I just purchased an Apple Watch, Series 6. I also have an iPhone 10S. Youtube on the iPhone worked perfectly in the morning on my iPhone, but once i got my Apple Watch and synced it to the iPhone, VoiceOver no longer interacts with Youtube.

Youtube can still be navigated with VoiceOver turned off. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Youtube, I have turned off and back on the iPhone, turned off and back on the Apple Watch, and turning off Bluetooth on the iPhone. The problem initially happened when I noticed an option on my watch to play/play what was on my iPhone, which happened to be a Youtube video. Best I recall, and this was just yesterday, is I paused the content on my iPhone, then went to hit "Play" on my apple Watch some time later. The video started playing from my iPhone after I pressed play from the Apple Watch, but from that point forward when opening Youtube on my iPhone I am unable to interact with the application at all. VoiceOver is completely silent when swiping left or right. All it will read is the status bar as the top with the time, WIFI indicator, etc. Visually there is nothing wrong with the application. The only thing I have not tried at this point is unsparing the watch from my phone.

I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. I am of course running the most current version of the Youtube app as updated on the App Store, the most current version of IOS for iPhone, and the most current version of Watch OS.

Thanks for any help,

Harry

Check if it is on for youtube. I think go to switch app, select youtube, use rotor and see if SR is on. Also in setting go to voiceover, screen recog, tap on it, slide to see a list of the apps that is using it. If is on for it, turn it off. Also did you do a restart in the phone?

Turning off screen recognition fixed the issue after I went to the app switcher and used the rotor. Who knew?

Thanks s much for the quick reply.

Have a wonderful day,

Harry

It looks like many people are having issues with it. Hope in iOS 14.7 is fix or 15. It is becoming a pain for most of us. For me it was setting, I could not get VO to work with it. After I updated my iOS 14.6 it work. I made sure that it is not on in any app.

It seems like screen recognition is turning out to be more of a hinderence than a help. I haven't found any apps that are made more useable with it turned on. I still say Apple should have some kind of accessibility compliance for apps where possible instead of SR.

YouTube is all good for me. Well... except for the fact that the time scrubber bar doesn't quite work. If you flick up and down like a normal adjustable slider, it only jumps by 10 seconds, just like the buttons above it that do that. And if you try the double tap and hold to pass the next gesture through to move it in a larger increment, like rewinding the video to the beginning, it doesn't work so you have to turn VO off, making it tricky to find where the scrubber bar is on the screen. Pretty annoying. lol
