Hi all,
I am very keen to learn to DJ. I heard great things about the accessibility of the djay Pro app for iOS. Being a VoiceOver user, this is clearly important to me.
I have bought the app but have some questions about using it effectively, both stand-alone and with DJing equipment. If anyone would be happy to discuss this with me I would really appreciate it.
Also, are there any useful tutorials on using the app and DJing in general that are accessible to VO users?
Thanks in advance for any help/recommendations!
Best wishes,
Charlie

djay Pro / iPad Pro / Pioneer DDJ-SX2
I've been using djay Pro extensively for making mixes for my podcast. I also use it in clubs, parties, even corporate events. I've had a very high quality experience. Let me know if you have any specific questions I can answer.
Hi Ryan,
Hi Ryan,
Many thanks for your extremely prompt response!
To be honest with you, being completely new to DJing, I'm looking for a tutorial/walkthrough that would enable me to teach myself the basics (if such a thing exists). Do you know of anything like this?
Also, do you have any advice for those just starting out? I'm interested in learning the art first, not jumping in to parties etc. This is purely a personal project for enjoyment purposes, I wouldn't be looking to make money out of it.
Finally, I understand that I am unable to use the app to DJ with Voiceover coming over headphones and the music over loudspeaker without purchasing extra equipment. Is that correct?
I hope that's all clear.
Using Buttons and Sliders in djay Pro for iOS
Hi all,
Sorry, yet another question from me about this app.
This article states that triple-tapping the home button makes the app read out the sliders etc when touched and requires the user to double-tap on an item to activate it https://djworx.com/djay-pro-voiceover/ I've tried doing this but it doesn't work for me as described. As I have the accessibility shortcut enabled for turning VO on and off, this happens as usual rather than the expected feature of the app as described previously. Please could you tell me how to use the app as described in the article for accessing buttons, sliders and so on?
Many thanks again in advance for any info! :-)
Splitting Output of VoiceOver and Music
Hi,
Sorry for yet another question on this topic. I just purchased the splitter cable made by Griffin as advised in the iOS app. I've plugged it in and have enabled split output in settings, however though the music I want is playing only over the speaker as I hoped, VoiceOver can be heard both over the headphones and speaker. How can I set the app up so VoiceOver can only be heard on the headphones please?
Best wishes,
Charlie
VoiceOver Audio Settings
You need to connect the DJ cable, then do the following in VoiceOver settings:
• Under Audio, turn ducking off.
• Deselect the right channel of speech and sounds, as the DJ cable to my knowledge uses the right channel for main output and left channel for cue.
At this point VO sounds should be only in the cue. When done, enable the right channel again for speech and sounds. Otherwise when you connect headphones, you'll only hear VoiceOver out of your left speaker/headphone.
Please also note that you can only make these changes with headphones or the DJ splitter cable connected. The separate channels only display when devices are connected.
Live tonight at OMG in San Francisco
If anyone wants to see how this all works, especially with a high end Pioneer DDJ-SX2 controller and iPad Pro as the setup, feel free to come and watch me spin at OMG in San Francisco tonight. I'm on the decks from 7:30 PM until 8:15 PM. I'll be bringing a second pair of headphones with me so you'll be able to put them on and shadow me as I mix. The event info can be found below.

DJ Club SF is a group of DJs that meet up once a month and have an open decks night. This means if you grow your skills as a DJ, you can sign up to spin at one of the events.
Using audio splitter with iPad Pro 2018
I have tried to do this on the iPad Pro 2018 just as instructed but still I am having the issue where voiceover comes over all channels I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I am very frustrated and desperately request help! I am also enabling the split pre-queuing on the DJ software application and have tried different types of splitters for the same result any help would be appreciated
Djay pro experience
hi all,
I have a MacBook air early 2014, and used to use DJay Pro.
I also have a pioneer DDJ WEGO 2 controller. Unfortunately, it's in storage for now, but hopefully when I get it back in future, I'll be able to reinstall DJay pro.
For now, my experience from using it in the past turned out great.
On mac, if you have an audio interface, you can route the audio from VoiceOver speech to the output of the interface, and use the audio coming out of the DJ controller to control DJ mixes and playback.
As for iOS, I'm unsure, as I haven't even tried it with VoiceOver on.
