Apple News in iOS 14.5

While I was glad to see that scrolling through the followed and suggested feeds is now possible, I'm not pleased with some other changes.

I no longer seem to be informed whether a news topic is Apple News Plus only. Before, that information was presented along with the headline. I do not subscribe, and find it tedious to try to read something I have no access to.

I am seeing many repeated stories in the feed. This was a rare occurrence in the previous version, but now seems common place.

Navigation by heading is still sorely missed.

I'm seriously considering moving to another news aggregator, or, maybe this is a sign I need to take a news break.

Hi there!

Why not do both? There's a lot of stressfulness going on right now. So, why not take a news break to decompress? I've been on an extended one since COVID. and I have not gotten back into it yet very much. Besides, it's the same stuff every day anyway.

But, on a more serious note however, I have not used Apple News since maybe IOS. 10 or 11. Main reason was because it was no longer telling me when articles were already read. There were a couple of other things, but that was #1 annoyance for me. And from what I'm hearing from people such as yourself, it sounds like So made the right call when I became an Apple News convert.

I'll be honest with you and tell you right off the bat, that I have several different news agrigators I use including, Smart News, Lire, Microsoft News, NFBNewsline, Google News, and a couple others I can't think of off the top of my head. That being said, I do have a favorite. My favorite is Google News. I'd seriously consider converting to it. it's free and accessible. Plus, it's easy to use, is a lot like Apple News used to be, but also manages to pack in some other features as well. The thing I like most about this particular news app, is it's heavy use of the rotor! That's how it packs in some nice features that are hidden. Not to mention the clean user-interface!
I hope this helps!

Thank you for your suggestions, including taking a news break. I will explore all of them.

You might also want to try an RSS. reader. I have Lire, and Feedly. Although if you want my honest opinion, I'd spring for the $10 and get Lire. That's the RSS reader I use most. Plus, it's accessible.
I know there's free apps that do this sort of thing, like Nersify and Net Newswire, but if I'm being honest, they were not my cup of tea.

I know that RSS isn't every one's cup of tea, and personally, I use Google News and NFBNewsline, more than anything.
All I'm saying, is that
a: it's good to have options, and
b: you might have more than one app for news. Which is how it is in my case. Because of a variety of reasons. Sometimes a news source works better on one app than the other. Or maybe you'll have one app for when you want or need to just quickly get an update. Then you maybe want an app for more detailed reading for example.
Hope this helps.

I like the Apple News as it isolated me from dealing with RSS feeds. But the convenience is now overshadowed by the annoyance.
