As I couldn't think of another use for one but am curious to try one out, I have just ordered an AirTag along with a Belkin holder to attach it to my guide dog's collar.
I've never lost one of my guide dogs before, but curiosity got the better of me and this was the best use case that I could sort of justify to myself ☺️
At the very least I will be curious to discover whether the Precision Finding feature of the AirTag has enough range to give me some idea of where my dog is when he's free running at the park. If the range is 10 foot or less, then I have probably already got that covered. But, anything more and this might be useful.
Yeah, I know, all of the above is pure justification for buying something that I don't really need 😉

Same here
I had the same thoughts. My guide dog doesn't always come when called, whether because he's distracted, or has decided to sleep in a place I don't expect. Around the house and yard, having precise direction to his location might prove useful. I ordered two of them, but do still need to find a holder that can attach to a collar.
Roomba
Since supposedly you can get more precise directions from the iPhone such as it is tis to the left or right, I would like one for my Roomba robot vacuum that gets stuck in random places. But I don't' know how to attach it. Maybe just tape it?
Duct tape it
It’s cheap and should work fine 😉
It is a good idea
I think that another use is to know where in the house the dog is resting, without having to call him if he is sleeping.
Actually that's a good idea!
Hi Cobbler, Do tell us how the air tag worked on your dog, when you get it. Because, sometimes, certain German Shepherd's just don't want to be bothered and can ignore your calling.
AirPods case
Anyone have ideas on how I could stick one to an AirPods case? I’m always losing mine interesting places
if I needed
I will ghet one of it for my keys, cane and walet, and some of the small thumb drive as well.
Let us know how it works. I…
Let us know how it works. I'm always losing things, and if one of those will work with my 8+ it would be worth getting at least one. I'\ almost never lose my keys, they stay in my pocket or purse at all times, but I could find many uses for an air tag. I thought of my cat, but she stays inside and the only times I can't find her is when she's sleeping.
ordered a few one for my dog
I have ordered one for my guide dog though I’ve yet to find a way of attaching it to her collar. . Her recall when free running is very good but she has a nasty habit of sneaking out of the back garden and ending up at one of the neighbours down the street, treats are almost certainly involved.
It will be interesting to see if I can track her down with having to go to their door or yell for her along the street. I’m hopping I can get an alert to know that she’s out of bluetoof range so I know she’s dun a runner.
To the person wanting to know how to attach one to their AirPods case. Guessing you don’t want to use duck tape so you could buy an AirPods protective case with a keyring holder or strap and attach the Air-tag holder to that.
I’m betting that 3rd party’s might start making airpod covers with air-tag holders already attached.
I'll get one for everything my wife owns
Ironically, it's my sighted spouse who always loses things, and for some odd reason expects me to help her find them. So I'll get one for her keys, one for her iPhone, and one for her glasses.
Come to think of it, my wife is awfully quiet sometimes. Maybe I'll get one for her.
Quick update
Just a quick update to confirm that as mentioned on the AirTag review elsewhere on here, AirTags won't work for keeping track of your dog whilst they are free running at the park.
I tested this for myself, and the only time Precision Finding worked was when my dog was quite literally standing in front of me. At all other times it reported that Precision Finding couldn't work because the AirTag was moving. I have also found that the range of Precision Finding outside is pretty poor anyway, with a range of about 30 feet in my tests.
For those who simply want to know where their dog is around the house without waking them, the AirTag should work for this.
I have a small cart I use…
I have a small cart I use for laundry and groceries, and it sometimes gets away from me if there's a slope and my hands are busy loading/unloading it. I only thought of using an airtag on it yesterday while I was transferring laundry from washer to dryer in my building's laundry room and temporarily lost track of it because I bumped into it.
Great Idea
Hey Cobbler,
That's a terrific idea. If you're interested in getting the AirTag, I would highly suggest finding a reliable way to secure the AirTag onto your dog. Full disclosure: I work for https://www.collartrek.com — the first leather dog collar for AirTags. Our team created this collar for this exact use case. I'm biased, but even if you don't want our collar (which is completely cool), I encourage doing the following:
I'd highly highly recommend making sure the AirTag is fastened properly to the collar. Because we have gone through a lot of iterations with the AirTag and have tried numerous existing collars on the market, we have seen AirTags falling off way more than you think. It is a huge hazard to your dog if the AirTag ends up being consumed by your dog on accident. So check the following steps to ensure the AirTag is properly secured.
1. Shake it repetitively with your hands.
2. Observe your dog during a trial run, and see how it holds up.
3. Take a wet cloth and wipe it around the AirTag. We've noticed it can loosen up, and fall out in wet conditions.
Again, regardless of bias, want to make sure you and your friend are safe & sound :) Cheers!
Looks interesting
Thanks for the pointer and tips.
For now, I'm using one of Apple's key fobs to attach the AirTag to my dog's collar. However, the method used in your collar looks like it would be less intrusive and more durable, so I will watch out for some reviews of the collar when its available.
If somebody on here gets one of these collars, do please let us know your thoughts ☺️
