Accessibility Comments

This app does not have an interface. If you haven't defined any events (see below for how it works), it will open a window with some introductory text, which is accessible.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and use.

Other Comments

After you close that first window, you will find that you are now in a finder folder which includes 2 pList files, as well as a notes.rtf file which has a list of all events you can assign. This folder is located in /Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/MrGeckosMedia/SoundNote The way you assign a sound notification to an event is by pasting a sound file (can be any format that can be played by quicktime), into this folder, and giving it the name of of any event listed in notes.rtf. For example, if you want a sound to play when you connect or disconnect something from one of the USB ports, put in a sound with the name "usbconnected" and "usbdisconected". The same applies for shell scripts, and if you want growl notifications, you need to turn them on on a per-event basis by editing the appropriate plist file. If you have any files in for events, if you run the soundnote app it will stay in the background and the only way to cose it is through the activity monitor. I'd also recommend you add soundnote to your login items if you like what it does. The only events that don't seem to work are the ones in the "accessibility" section, even though I checked the appropriate checkbox. The description makes it sound a lot more complicated then it really is to set soundnote up. I definitely recommend this app, because it lets you add sounds to events that have them in WIndows, but not on the mac, like battery warnings, connecting/disconnecting hardware, and opening/closing programs.

Thanks for this. I did a short audio boo on this which can be found at http://audioboo.fm/marrie1 and shortly maybe in a few days at http://tffppodcast.com/tffp This is a good way to make sounds and I wish I'd known about this sooner, but I am always learning something new. Again thanks for the sound pack and I have some ideas for a voice sound pack, at least for the essentials. Take care
Hi Mary, Thanks for the quick look at SoundNote; I will be picking this app up shortly. One app that I use for disk management is called Mountain. There is an AppleVis directory entry on it. I like that it tells you (through Growl) when a disk is mounted or unmounted and the name of that volume. There is also a nifty "Unmount all and sleep" which you can get to through a menu extra from anywhere. For someone who certainly needs to get better at Terminal, this app works well for me.

Hi,

As stated previously, I love this app. It can be a great conversation piece if I don't have headphones plugged in. However, I can't seem to get the "Airportconnected" and "Ethernetconnected" functions to work. Anyone else have this problem?

So you have to use sound files in a format quicktime can play. What formats are thoes? Also, do all the files need to be in the same format or can you use a mix of formats? Thank you.

I know I'm reviving a ridiculously old thread, but I used this app a long time ago and just redownloaded it today. I have no idea if it still works on high sierra, but thought I'd give it a try. However, I've lost the sound pack, and have been hunting for it, which brought me here. But the link posted no longer works, I'm assuming because whoever had it in dropbox moved it somewhere else, deleted it, etc. If anyone knows where I can find it, or a similar one, I'd greatly appreciate it. :) Thanks so much!
