Apple has today released iOS and iPadOS 14.4.1, macOS Big Sur 11.2.3 , and watchOS 7.3.2.
Though these updates appear to have been primarily released to address a specific security issue, a bug introduced in iOS 14.4, appears to have been resolved. This was the bug concerning connectivity issues for the Mantis Q 40, Chameleon 20, and both the Brailliant BI20S and bi40X models. Both the American Printing House and Humanware have posted confirmation of this resolved bug on their respective mailing lists. Though this appears to be the only fix, if you notice any changes, improvements or regressions in your own use of these releases, please post a comment with your findings.
Release Notes
Apple's release notes say that these updates feature “important security updates and are recommended for all users.”
The primary security fix addresses an issue with malicious content on the web involving memory corruption:
- Impact: Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution
- Description: A memory corruption issue was addressed with improved validation.
How to update
iOS and iPadOS 14.4.1 are available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update) via Finder on a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, or via iTunes on a PC or Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier.
Before updating, we strongly recommend making a full and complete backup of your device (either locally or in iCloud, depending on personal preference). This will ensure that, in the unlikely event that something goes wrong during the update process, you will have a current backup on hand in case a device restore becomes necessary. Also, if using OTA update, we recommend plugging your device into a power source for the duration of the download/installation process, so as to prevent the unlikely event of your battery going dead during the update.
More information on how to update the software on your device is available on this Apple Support page.
To install macOS Big Sur 11.2.3 , choose System Preferences from the Apple menu, then click the Software Update preference pane to check for updates. If any updates are available, click the Update Now button to install them. Or click ”More info” to see details about each update and select specific updates to install.
More information on how to update the software on your Mac is available on this Apple Support page.
watchOS 7.3.2 is available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update) or by going to the Watch app on your iPhone and navigating to General> Software Update. To install the update, your Watch must be connected to its charger and have at least 50% battery power.

braille screen input working correctly?
Is BSI working now with this relaease as it is supposed ot do so in messages or erasing text?
No audio feedback when entering iCloud password
As the last step in the upgrade, users are prompted to enter their Apple ID password to activate iCloud. However, even though VoiceOver is enabled, there are no audio key clicks when entering the password. I've noticed this behavior for at least the last two updates. Anyone else experiencing this?
braille displays still not fixed for me
I still can't use my Mantis Braille display. really grumpy about this whole situation. wish I had left it for a while before updating. Can't even remember what the features were that I wanted to upgrade for either.
Mantis issues in 14.4.1
Hello.
I had these issues as well, but I had the phone forget the Mantis, removed the pairing from the Mantis's side, and it then worked for me. I think the Mantis User Guide explains quite well how to remove Bluetooth connections.
iMessage bug
There is a bug where, if you try to compose a new iMessage, voiceover will not announce the words you type after you hit space. I also noticed that the pitch of the voice does not get higher as I type as it normally does when typing. This only happens when I hit the compose button or try to send a message from a contact card; this does not happen if I write a message in an already existing thread.
I see this on 14.4.
I see this onn 14.4.
BSI fine, some music accessibility broken
I have had no problems typing anywhere with Braille Screen Input with IOS 14.4.1, nor with erasing words, and I didn't have those problems before eeither. I have found an accessibility problem in the Music app, though: if I open the Now Playing screen while a song is playing, the word "On" appears on the Up Next button, and does not change if I double-tap that button, so I have no idea what it might be toggling to. The default behaviour now seems to be to play something next whether I've set it to do that or not: when I finished listening to an album after updating IOS a couple of days ago, another song randomly played after the end of the album, and I had not set any song to play when the album ended, so I expected silence like I used to get. Since the Up Next button always says "On" when accessed with VoiceOver, how are we VO users supposed to know when it's off? And why did they get rid of the Repeat button? I don't use Repeat much, but ther are times when it can be useful.
Up Next in Music.
mine says "Playing Next Shuffle, On, Auto Play"
It says selected when I double tap The button. Then a history and up next list appears. Pressing the button again Removes the list from the now playing screen.
So it seems to be a toggle switch and a status indicator at the same time.
