Soccer Boss: Football Game

Category

Description of App

Take on the role of a football manager in this realistic soccer strategy game.

You are a young, promising football manager at the start of your career. A handful of small clubs are prepared to gamble on your potential and make you their manager. Choose one and take it from the bottom league all the way to European glory. Or will you ditch them when other jobs become available at bigger and better clubs, working your way up to managing one of the giants of European football?

▶ REALISTIC CLUB AND LEAGUES STRUCTURE

There are 750 clubs to manage across 9 European countries including England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Russia, Portugal, Turkey and the Netherlands. Each country has realistic league and cup competitions, meaning there are 64 trophies to compete for in total – how much silverware can you win?!

▶ MASSIVE PLAYER DATABASE

There are 17,000 players in the game and your scouts will regularly provide reports on as many as they can. Make offers to buy or loan them, using your business acumen to negotiate transfer fees and personal terms. You’ll be in control of player sales too – will you accept that big offer for your star player?

▶ KEEP YOUR CHAIRMAN HAPPY

Each season your chairman will give you a realistic target to achieve. This could be something like avoid relegation, finish in the top 10 or even win the league. The chairman will expect you to steadily improve the team, so usually the targets will get higher and higher each season. You will be given a transfer budget and a wage budget for the season which you can spend on whoever you want. But be careful you don't spend what you don't have as the chairman will not take kindly to this and it could have a negative effect on your job security, maybe even resulting in the sack!

▶ APPLY FOR OTHER JOBS

As you career progresses, so your reputation will increase and other clubs will consider appointing you as their manager. You can apply for other jobs either in the same country you're currently managing in or abroad. But make sure you check out the state of the club first - you don't want to take on a side doomed to relegation, or a team which doesn't have much money as that wouldn't be good for your career.

▶ APPOINT YOUR BACKROOM STAFF

There are other personnel to help you manage the club. The Head Coach, Academy Coach, Physio, Head Scout, Youth Scout and Fitness Coach all play their part in the success of the club. Hire and fire them at the right time to achieve the best results for your team.

▶ TAKE FULL CONTROL OF MATCHES

Before each match you must pick the team, carefully considering the fitness and skill level of each player. Choose the formation and tactics to suit the opponent you're facing and then it's kick off.

As the match unfolds, change tactics if you need to. Have you taken the lead against tough opposition? Consider switching to a more defensive mentality to grind out the win. Is your midfielder's fitness levels dropping too low? Maybe it's time to freshen the team up with a substitution. But if you make all your subs too early and then pick up an injury, what will you do then?!

These tough decisions are part and parcel of managing the team on match day and will ultimately shape your career.

Do whatever it takes to win all 64 trophies and become the ultimate Soccer Boss.

I will definitely be checking out this game. As I already have the football chairman pro game and love it. I still like playing that one. Though I had to stop because I found that from the latest iOS version, voiceover keeps jumping around way too quickly for me to navigate in it.

When I go to play a match, it says team selection incomplete please select your team, I have selected the formation I’d like my team to play, and everything like that do I need to select the opposing team? If so how do I do that? Other than that the game is really awesome!

By Ramy on Thursday, October 22, 2020 - 15:34

I did all things, but the team selection screen is very hard, anyone made success in selecting his/her team?

By Borostar on Thursday, October 22, 2020 - 15:34

Hi, When you are on the tactics screen, Next to each position is a select button! Just hit the select button and select your player for that position. The team sheet is displayed in a formation that you have selected. Don't forget to select your substitutes or you will keep getting that message. On the left of the screen you have your squad players and Voice-over will tell you if any player has been selected and for which position. For example. S Downing M. The M stands for Midfield. Once your team is selected, just go back to the home screen and tap the next fixture button which will have the name of your next opponent where you will be taken to the next screen which may be the match day screen. You then hit the play button and the game will begin and just above the play/pause button is the clock! Voice-over will read out the match commentary and you have the option to turn on crowd sounds. Don't forget you can make a subsitute at any time by accessing the team sheet on the right of the screen. I find that the match day experience is rather good as I find it easier to make substitutes as the player selection is easier as it's set out in a list format. It's worth contacting the app dev as he is open to suggestions and is always making the app accessible for everyone. I've been making suggestions for quite a while now even when he launched the Soccer Tycoon game a couple of years ago. You can reach him through the contact option within the main menu of the game or just tweet him @TopDrawerGames1.

This is a very enjoyable game to play so far. One question: other than scouted players, can you make an offer to buy any other player? a long, long time ago there was an accessible football management game by Wizard Games. This was so long ago it was in the days of MSDos and Hal version 4, so mid 90s. anyway, that game had a transfer market section where you could browse all players who had been transfer listed by their clubs. So you weren't just bound by the scout's recommendations. I haven't spotted an equivalent here. Am I missing something?

By Firefly on Thursday, October 22, 2020 - 15:34

Yeah since you explain it that way I think I get it now.

Hi, I’m afraid there isn’t a sophisticated transfer market and it’s quite basic as it will only show you what has been scouted for you on a weekly basis I think

So I did indeed figure out the team selection problem. When it says team selection and then a capital letter for the position with nothing after it that means nobody is selected in other news, I am position 22 in my league which is not good I may have to start looking for a new job soon LOL!

By Bingo Little on Thursday, October 22, 2020 - 15:34

I wish there was a way of clearing the agent players off the screen. I'm not going to buy any coins! I've already purchased removal of ads but this pushy advertising won't work. I'd rather pay a fiver for the game up front than have this concept of coins. In fact the more times coins for this, that and the other are mentioned, the more determined I am never to buy any.

By ryan perdue on Sunday, November 22, 2020 - 15:34

Well, the good news was, I really enjoyed the game. I I won 4 titles in my first 4 seasons.
To celebrate advancing to the highest league in the Netherlands, I bought some coins and purchased some really good players.
I was in first place in September 2024 when I updated to iOS 14.1 a few weeks ago.
After the update, I am stuck in June of 2022 but, I have the correct squad. If I try to advance past June 15th, the game crashes every time.

By al-Salil on Sunday, November 22, 2020 - 15:34

I'm running iOS 14.2 and Soccer Boss 1.1.6 and the game has not crashed yet.
I'm currently in february 2029 and all seems well.
So, sorry for not being able to help you out.

Hi Soccer Bosses

Following an update, it’s now possible to swap the position of players during a match without the lottery that was the drag functionality.

Exchange between the Dev and I went along these lines, which I hope explains the issue and the fix:

Me: Hi Team

I’m very much enjoying Soccer Boss, thank you.

The game works wonderfully with VO, save for one area for which I
can’t find a solution – dragging a player to a new position on the
pitch.

If I must switch formation mid-match for whatever reason (normally
injury), I can’t find a means of repositioning players, I can’t
get VO to work when attempting to drag.

I wonder if in a future release that part of the game could be made to
work in a similar way to say making a substitution. Double tap the
player to be repositioned, a list appears, choose the player you wish
to swap, the list closes the swap is accomplished.

Thanks for a great game.

Dev’s Response:

Hi

Thanks for your email about Soccer Boss.

I take your point about swapping positions during a match and will try to fix this functionality as you suggested for the next update. The next update may not be for a while though, because I am very busy with other projects right now.

Regards

Steve

I saw the update Yesterday evening, the issue is resolved.

What isn’t resolved though is my expensive forward constantly firing blanks, I doubt he could hit a barn door, I’ve taken to booing him off the pitch myself.

Maybe he’ll improve.

By Borostar on Sunday, November 22, 2020 - 15:34

Hi, you could already change formation during the game. I lost in the National League Play-offs in my 2nd season with Chesterfield and won all 5 of my opening games of season 3. I whish we could get job offers from bigger clubs when are doing well as that would reflect what usually happens in real life. Working my way up from the bottom is keeping interested in the game and I haven't played Soccer Tycoon for a month now because of this game.

I have to say that this dev is probebly the best around because he actually listens to any concerns around accessibility issues.

By Wony on Sunday, November 22, 2020 - 15:34

You could change formation during a match; however, chances are that you’d then have players playing out of position.

For instance, changing from 4 4 2 to 5 4 1 will necessitate substituting a forward for a defender.

Chances are that the substitution would cause the defender to be played out of position.

You then need to perform the swap to ensure that the positions are correct as a Players effectiveness drops dramatically if out of position, e.g. a mid fielder playing in defence.

I hear so much on this website about replay value, so much about how Geoff or Sarah has completed all 250 levels of a game in two or three hours....this is a brilliant game and I hope my fellow managers wil follow the example and keep doing it the hard way. I'm in my fourth season with Torquay United. I got promotion through the play-offs of the national league at the end of my second season and finished eleventh in league 2 last season. I had hoped in my naivety that the chairman would want to push on for promotion to league 1 but his priorities must lie elsewhere as I have been given a piffling wage budget which basically means I am stuck with what I have, for better or wose. Currently thirteenth and will probably finis around that mark. My players are young so I hope I can keep the squad together so next year they're that much better and we can have a real tilt at promotion. I do wish there was a transfer market though, or at least some way I could seek out players myself. I'm not a coins man and never will be.

Before your time as Manager, I went to see Torquay play, so many years ago, I forget who.

I do remember the club providing a commentary service for the blind though and that the incredibly well-spoken commentator wasn’t shy about offering an opinion on players’ performance, inviting a recent signing to go back to the club from whence he came.

It’s a great game as you say, I’m excited to see what else Steve has in the works.

I doubt my Chairman will ever be happy, so have taken out the Anti Sack policy just in case.

I’ve read elsewhere that dismissals may be handed out summarily and without just cause.

am playing this game for more than 1 month, and am very happy, just need to know if CHanging the player posession will make a difference? i know that the defender should be a difender all the time, but is there a way to make him back right, back left, etc? will it make a difference? and how can i do that?
all i can do now is placing the players in there right posessions,
Thanks in advance

By Ramy on Sunday, August 22, 2021 - 15:34

TIll now i did not purchase any players for coins, but, will it make a difference really?
and, if i will stop the ads, will my budjet increases? because i know that ads will increase my budjet etc.

You don't have to worry about putting players in left, right and center.
This applies to all player positions.
However, make sure not putting players out of position like a defender playing in midfield or as a forward.
The players skill level decreases if you place a player out of position.
The players available to buy with coins is often more skillful than the players found by scouts.
That said you do not need to use coins to succeed in the game.
However, it is very important to always look out for better scouts and other backroom staff to help you improving the team.
I've won the Premier League and Champions League without spending real money but using coins gets you to the top faster :-)
So, you should always improve your squad and always pick the best players available and tactics to win the league.
