Hi,
Last night, I listened to an interview that Jonathan Mosen did, with the developer of Lire, on his "Mosen At Large" podcast.

As a result, I'm considering purchasing the new app.
Before I do, I'd like to know:
• What do I get, with this new app, that I didn't get with the old app?
• If anyone has the new app, what do you think of it, compared to the old app?
• The big question is, "Is it worth the upgrade?"

Has anyone tried the mac version?

Any thoughts there?

Thanks for any opinions regarding this matter.

Hey Skippy!

I didn't have the old version. I bought it when it went up to $10. So I cannot give you comparisons. So Still cannot answer those questions.

I can tell you however that I love the new app. You get a lot more custom options for 1 thing. that's an entry in an AppleVis Unlimited blog from a few months ago that features this app update. But to put it simply and short it gets Lire into the modern world.

If I had to recommend an RSS. Reader app to anyone and they needed accessibility this would be the app I'd recommend.
But if you use the app almost if not every day and you love it then I say pull the trigger. Especially since the dev is commited to voiceOver support. love Lire especially the discovery features. Because I read a lot of news from a lot rather different ssources covering an array of topics and sub-topics. Tech is a good eexample ratheof that. I hope this helps you some what.

I have both versions on my phone. The new version is a little more responsive and a bit faster on cashing. The best reason to get the new version is the old one is not in the app store. If and when you get a new IOS device, you will have to buy the new version. Buying it before getting a new Apple will make it easier to migrate all from the old to the new. I plan on comparing both since my Curiosity is sparked. I will respond later with the results.

Hi Gregg,

I use the old Lire app on my new iphone and love it. If I do get the new Lire app, will I be able to get all my feeds automatically or will I need to do it manually.

Hi Adi you can export your OPML file from the old one and go to import OPML on the new one to import your feeds Basically the OPML file is a listing of feeds you had subscribed to in the older version. Hope this helps.

I already have the app, but if I search for lire in the app store it shows that I have to buy it... what are the differences? Is the old app no longer updated? Where's the info on this?

Yes, you are correct. The old app is no longer being updated, therefore, if you want to continue using it, you must purchase the new app.
The developer is very committed to Accessibility, therefore, I have absolutely no problem supporting him. The Mac version of the app, has not yet been tested for accessibility with voiceover, but he said in a tweet, that he was working on it.

Hi, Can anyone tell me how the new version of Lire compares to other options, such as, Netnewswire, Newsify, Feedler Pro, etc?
I loved Lire when I used the old app, and am now using Netnewswire, and love that!
I'd still like to try the new version of Lire, thanks, in part, to the developer's commitment to voiceover accessibility.
Thanks for any info anyone can provide.

I'm a heavy RSS user and have used most of the accessible RSS readers out there (Fiery Feeds, NetNewsWire, News Explorer included). At different times each has been my go to choice, and for now it's lire.

It has a good and clean interface, and a level of options and configuration that isn't as dizzying as some (I'm looking at you Fiery Feeds), but not as basic as some others.

It also helps that the developer is extremely responsive to feedback and suggestions.

So, no hesitation in recommending lire here.
