Making the keyboard visible or disable hide keyboard button

I use the Apple bluetooth keyboards, which have a key to hide the onscreen keyboard. If I accidentally hit this key without knowing it, I later want to type on the phone itself, only to discover that the onscreen keyboard isn't there. Is there any way to disable this feature so hitting that key doesn't hide the keyboard? Failing that, is there any way, short of rebooting the phone, to make the keyboard visible without using a bluetooth keyboard to unhide it? Thanks.

You have to hit that same key to make the keyboard visible.

I'm a bit confused here. As I see it, as soon as you connect with the bluetooth keyboard, the on-screen keyboard automatically disappears. The top-right key lets you toggle the on-screen keyboard visible or invisable as you say. But as soon as you disconnect the keyboard by turning off bluetooth, or by moving out of range of the bluetooth keyboard, your on-screen keyboard should come back automatically. That's my experience anyway. So the short answer I guess, unless I've mis-interpreted your question, is to turn off bluetooth.
