Apple Announces October 13 Event; Likely to Introduce iPhone 12 and More

Apple has today announced that it will be holding its second fall special event on October 13.

It is anticipated that this event will see the launch of the iPhone 12; and possibly other products such as Apple AirPods Studio, AirTags, an Apple Silicon powered MacBook, a smaller HomePod, and an updated Apple TV.

As with the recent ā€œTime Fliesā€ event, this will be a virtual presentation likely featuring pre-recorded sections for each new product. It starts at 10am PT and will be live-streamed on Appleā€™s website, in the Apple TV app, and likely on YouTube. Hopefully Apple will be offering audio description for the event, as it did for the earlier fall event.

Let us know what you are hoping to see Apple announce by posting a comment below.

I expect the release of iOS 14.1.

I'm excited about what's coming on the 13th. We've heard all sorts of rumors from sources sketchy, vetted, and annoying. Now we get to find out which are true. Obviously I'm quite excited for the iPhone 12. Fingers crossed they've got that small battery thing sorted. It seems like removing the charger is all but confirmed now, which I'm not looking forward to, but I suppose I'll pick up one of those fancy new GaN chargers and get over it. I've got a power squid of USB adapters for all my electronics and batteries, so this might be good for consolidating it all down. At the end of the day, I'm just looking forward to finally dropping Android and Google's ever-increasing asinine decisions. I'll also be picking up my very first Apple Watch. It'll likely be the SE unless the series 6 has any substantial performance improvements, or at least any worth an extra Benjamin.

I'm also looking forward to AirTags. Sticking a little puck of tech into my more valuable items and being able to find them easily sounds wonderful. I always, always seem to misplace stuff in my room and house.

I'm very glad that the Mac is finally getting some love. I didn't do quite enough research when I purchased my MacBook, and I was met with a lovely little bombshell of bugs and broken Braille. Reworking the hardware can only mean good things for reworking the software, and it seems like my incessant whining already managed to at least unflummix the Braille support in the Big Sur beta. Despite that, I'm not touching a Mac until we're well clear of the transition. I wish the best to anyone braving a first-generation product.

I don't know much about Siri, save for the relentless jeering from the internet at large. I figure if she can control my lights, tell me the weather and my appointments, and control my music, it should be good. Bonus is Apple isn't sucking every byte of data I provide into some advertising algorithm. Oh yeah, and it's gotta be cheap. I'm not dumping hundreds on a smart speaker, no matter which AI cloud service powers it.

I don't have much interest in anything else. AirPods Studio are probably going to be too large to pocket, if they're circumaural or similar, and I'm perfectly happy with my m40x cans. I suppose they'll be great for Mac or iPad users. I might pick up AirPods Pro or something. I think I've sat down to watch TV 4 or 5 times in the past decade, and all of those times have been to watch something on Netflix. My partner isn't much interested either, so I guess that's that. All we've gotta do now is wait a week.

Hi,
I never knew there was such a thing as iOS 14.1. iOS 14.0.1, was recently released. iOS 14.2, is currently in beta, & Iā€™m testing it.
The only thing I can tell you, is that when iOS 14.2 comes out, we will all be very happy. There are some nice fixes in this update.

iOS 14.1 will come out. tomorrow iOS 14.02 might be out. I am planning to get the 12 pro.

assuming Apple does provide audiodescription, how does one get to that version of the stream? i've only ever found the normal version.

Yes, indeed they seem to skip the .1 subversion. On the other hand, Apple wouldn't do a keynote presentation on this. So, I'm definitely looking forward to the new iPhones and airTags.

To do this, you Need to wait until the "live" Event is over. Then go into the TV app on your apple device. Search for the Apple Event (usually typing in apple Event into the search field should be enough to find it). Select that, then Play it. When it is playing, press pause. Somewhere on the screen you'll find a button called media selection or something like that, in there you should be able to select Audio description.
At least, that's the way I did it.

Assuming it's the same as the Time Flies event, audio description will be available through the TV app when the event becomes available (so, essentially, the ā€˜liveā€™ broadcast).

Note that the listing for the Time Flies event did not appear in the TV app until about 30 minutes before the event was scheduled to start.

I believe that it is possible to access audio description via the stream on Apple's website, but the process to access the controls isn't very screen reader friendly.

The last time, I just went to apple.com at the live time and found it and play it. I got audio description. I did not do anything.

I wish Apple would also provide a good text description of the graphic that they use to announce the event. It's kind of fun to speculate on what will be announced from that, and read the often crazy theories other people come up with.

Obviously, the AR thing on Apple's website isn't accessible, though VO does guide you in placing the image on top of something in the real world.

I hope that the iOS software updates either get announced and released, or just released.

And I really hope they fix some if not all of the bugs. Mainly the focus issue. Because that has been getting on my last nerve. In some places I donā€™t see it. In other places I see it from time to time. And in other places, it is really really bad. I mean like my iPad is on steroids bad. And itā€™s different to app and website to website.

I'm curious about these air tags, and hoping Apple will devote some time to discussing those in detail. But perhaps they've already done this and I'm a bit behind the times, lol. Other than that...I and a sister are looking forward to the release of Mac OS Big Sur. In addition, I'm debating between one of Apple's new headsets for Christmas or the new ones from Bose.

Perhaps they will announce the MacOS update also. I believe.
