hi. i'm trying to find a good quality virtual machine for my mac so i can beta test jaws and NVDA on a website for my school. all of the ones i've tried are either giving me errors, or not working at all.
Hi,
Have you tried VMware fusion?
Iām using it on my Mac, to run windows 10, with jaws, and it works really well. The only thing, is that you have to turn off voiceover.
I am using Fusion. The only thing I don't like is that it sometimes fails to grab keyboard input, and I need to attept to convince it to do so by command-tabbing out and back in. I almost never turn off VoiceOver. It is only necessary to turn off quick-nav with my settings, but different keyboard and hot-key settings affect whether this works well or not. You pretty much have to set up a remapping program to get an insert key which is hard to live without when using a Windows screenreader. I absolutely love having a shared clipboard between all my operating systems.
The sound will not be absolutely perfect. It will crackle a bit at times, but it should not be too bad.
I'm currently using Parallels Desktop and it works perfectly.
No virtual machine is going to work as well as a Windows installation, but what you need is enough.
You will need VOCR for setup and installation, as the Parallels interface is inaccessible to VoiceOver.
@2, you can also set up a voiceover activity in vmware fusion so that quicknav is desabled completely when inside of vmware fusion. I have a voiceover activity that desables quicknav and the trackpad while inside of vmware. When I exit or move to anoter app, both get enabled again.
hi. I have the windows 10 iso file in fusion. I am able to start the machine up. it tells me that 3d support isn't available. as far as setting the actual windows OS up, I am stopped there, because it is not letting me turn narrator on. what program do I need to use to set up windows?
hi. so I got my audio to work, and when it was installing windows, I herd Microsoft David saying the progress announcements. when I tried to use narrator, and afterward NVDA, SAPI 5 wouldn't work. is there something I need to install?

I don't know if you are aware, but the alt and windows keys are typically reversed when using a Mac keyboard. The windows key is the command key while the alt key is the option key. This is important to know for a screen reader user. I use a full keyboard with the number pad which allows me to use numpad-0 as an insert key. You'll have to make other modifications to gain access to the insert key if you don't have a full keyboard.

Important note on the keyboard
