I currently have an iPhone8 which I bought in July of last year when my SE first gen started eating battery. Now they just came out with the SE2020. I was kind of holding off when I bought my iPhone8 for this phone but back then it was only roomered and I couldn't hold off do to the battery drain. I was thinking of paying off my phone as I'm still on a payment plan for it and buying the SE2020. I'm kind of on the fence about it though.
If you were in my shoes would you hold off until your payment plan was finished or would you go ahead and pay off the phone and upgrade? Since my iPhone8 is still pretty new I'm not sure if I could even do a trade in on it.
Thoughts?
Those that do have the iPhone8 and have purchased the SE2020 do you notice much difference in performence?

I would wait
I don't own one, but I am a phone nerd. The SE 2020 is an iPhone 8 with a refreshed CPU. It probably won't make a huge difference in performance. Users here and on other sites have reported that the battery life isn't great. The a13 brings better ISP for the cameras, but that's about it. Everything else is basically the same as the 8. I would wait. Hell, I would keep the iPhone 8 for a good long while. Throw it in a battery case or something. The SE 2020 won't be a noticeable improvement unless you're running resource-heavy apps or take tons of pictures.
Hold Off on the SE
I bought an iPhone 8 not long ago. I was wondering the same thing about buying an SE, but I am hoping in the fall an iPhone is announced with 5g capability. If 5g is announced in a new phone it will be worth waiting for instead of getting an SE. An SE is an iPhone 8 with an upgraded processor. Will you notice a difference? It's probably faster at loading apps, but I'm not sure that justifies buying a new phone. 5g seems like a better option if it is launched in the Fall.
Hold on
I heard that iPhone 12 will be around $500 or 600. I have the 11 pro max and the battery is great. I charge my phone every 2 days.
Worth It
I'd be willing to pay more for a phone that is capable of 5g if it does happen.
5G
Just because the iPhone may have 5G, does not mean that it is available.
about 5G
5G isn't the cure-all that mobile carriers are making it out to be. According to rumors, the standard iPhone 12 and 12 Max will support sub-6 GHz 5G. In practice, this will mean it's a bit faster than LTE. Only the high-end 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max will support the fancy millimeter-wave 5G that can pull multi-gigabit speeds. I don't know anyone who needs those kinds of speeds on mobile. Michael Fisher and Linus Sebastian have both made great videos explaining the current state of 5G. Unless you really need to download an entire television series in 2 minutes, or you're a massive tech nerd with deep pockets, 5G isn't worth intentionally seeking out.
Don't get me wrong, 5G, especially sub-6 GHz 5G, will be a nice feature to have, but it shouldn't be the deciding factor for the majority of people. Looking at the specs, it seems like 5G will really shine in very crowded areas, so your phone won't get bogged down at Disneyland or when tourists flood the city during summertime.
Yes
I also agree with above comment. I have 11 pro max and do not see any difference beteenbetween it and my old XS. I live in Chicago and speed is average.
Still on the page?
The better processor will help with some of the object recognition apps along with the slightly better camera. However I am also waiting until I can get a better offer from my carrier who will soon be providing the phone essentially free depending on the new phone plan if, like me you are not able to afford the new iPhones.
Totally worth it
I had an eight for a couple of years to actually and then I bought an iPhone SE build this bed is much better everything is much more fluid and for someone who uses the iPhone for eight hours like me it’s totally worth it. Also I love the home button which you want to have if you go to one of the Europhone’s. 5G we we eradicate our minds because of the SAR. And also I like the fun factor then your phones are too big for me. So the price is good the process is excellent and the size is great and this home bottom what not to like?
Your wish has been addressed
With the 12 Mini you get 5G and the high price you wish to pay; lovely that apple heard you on that comment. The SE 2020 is a good phone slightly taller than the first generation SE and all the rumors about the battery life being bad is coming from mobile gamers. If you are a regular joe; calling, texting, mailing and sometimes social media and surfing; I think you could go by the day. In critical situations when you know you will not have a power source near by it's best in every case carry a battery pack
Since you just got the 8
If I were you I would have got the battery replaced of the SE first generation and waited for another year to decide if I would want the SE 2020 or the 12 Mini. That would be a really hard decision to make as of this point. Since you just got the 8; hang on to it till it lasts and then get to make that difficult decision. All the very best!
I have the SE2020.
It's not a bad phone for me, the battery lasts a day and the fast charging plug is actually quite good, but apart from that and the home button senser thing; I don't notice a huge difference in phones.
Oh yeah; the phone at least here in the UK; won't come with a plug, so you'll need to buy one.
I would get the SE 2020, or better yet get the 2022 model
The SE 2020 has apples A13 Bionic processor, which is the same processor that was in the iPhone 11, 11 pro and 11 promax, which was all released in 2019.. You can get storage options of 64, 128, and 256 GB. The iPhone SE 2020 does not have 5G, it has the same cameras, battery, look, design, shape, Phill, and aesthetics is the iPhone 8.
The iPhone SE 2022 was released on March 8, 2022. It has apples a 15 bionic processor which was released in 2021 with the iPhone, 13, 13 mini, 13 pro and 13 pro max. The SE 2022 features this processor, as does the iPhone, 14 and 14+. The iPhone SE 2022 has a couple of minutes better battery life than the iPhone 8 and SE 2020, whilst adding modern features such as 5G. For the third time, it has the same aesthetics, Phill and design of the iPhone 8 and SE, 2022.
