Hey everyone!
I'm new to the form here. I recently bought a Mac and I've noticed that Voiceover is really slow in web browsers. I can barely even load Reddit without my Mac saying "busy". It's not just Reddit though, Amazon as well. Everywhere else, Voiceover is fairly snappy. I don't think it's the specs of the Mac; MBP 2020 13 inch, 16 gigs RAM, and 1TB HD. Any help would be appreciated. I love Windows, but I've always wanted to give Mac OS/Voiceover an honest try.

that is normal VoiceOver behaviour
that is just 'par for the course!' VoiceOver let's you know when apps are busy, and, unlike windows, allowes you to use other apps while Safari is frozen. just give it more of a try. I personally, learn best when framilarity is taken away. that's why I learned the mac in the first okace. give your windows computer to someone else for a year, and then, through forst emerssion, you will learn it by when that year us iver, . how are you getting along now with VoiceOver? Why do you want to try a mac?
Sincenerly,

Re
Interesting. That's potentially a huge deal breaker for me. Safari shouldn't be freezing in the first place. If I load a page, there's no reason it should take so long to load. What if I needed to quickly check a page, realize it doesn't have what I'm looking for, then close the tab? I just spent all that time waiting for the page to load that I didn't even need.
My old laptop was crapping out on me. I run 2 Youtube channels, and I seriously needed a way to edit videos and edit them on the go. Windows, unfortunately, doesn't have any accessible video editors. I wanted to give Movie Maker a go because I heard that's accessible with Voiceover. Plus, I'm a believer of don't knock it until you try it, and I've never fully gave Voiceover a go.
your reasons
moviemaker is an old windows tool back in windows XP. iMovie, is the mac free video editing tool. some blind people have used it, as evadenced in forum topics and guides on AppleVis. it sounds like you are a dihard windows user, not really wanting to learn VoiceOver and its intracraseews, (I may be wrong.) you must have site to want to do video editing. I am totslly blind, and have no ingklin for video editing at this time. your last post seems to me you are frastrated and need one-one-help learning to use VoiceOver. if that's the case, my email is daniel.angus.macdonald@gmail.com if you are remotly interested in learning the mac and by extention VoiceOver. good luck.
Daniel
Re
Sorry, I meant I Movie; it's late haha.
I'm not die hard Windows at all. I actually said the exact opposite and want to give Macs an honest effort. I don't have any sight, that doesn't mean video editing isn't possible.
Slow Safari
Hi Ross!
I'm sorry to say that slow and laggy Safari is a pretty normal experience for many Mac users, especially after updating to Catalina. Many users take the easy way out and solves this issue just by switching to Google Chrome.
Others, including myself, want to try out a few tricks first to see if the Safari sluggishness can be improved, and usually it can.
Since I'm a bit out of time right now, I'll just post a link to an article explaining a few goto tricks you could try, rather than explaining them myself. Hope this helps :)

I'm a windows user and this is why.
Sure my computer may lag from time to time but hearing busy busy busy got tiring quite quick so I jumped back to windows.
If you're going to stick to the mac, I hope it works for you and good luck.
I am not seeing the issues on Amazon
Hello,
I just purchased the new 13 inch MacBook Pro myself. I have the 10th gen I5 with 16 gigs of ram and a 1Tb hard drive. I am not seeing the slowdowns on amazon. Now that I have said this, I will probably see the issue soon. LOL.
`
Seeing it on MacBook Pro 16
I have the new MacBook Pro 16 with i9 processor with 8 kernals, 1 TB SSD and 32 GB RAM, and I'm seeing the lagging behaviour a lot in Safari, especially when launching Safari. I will sometimes have to wait for 7-8 seconds only for Safari to load and open properly up. And it shouldn't be any issues regarding the general performance of my MacBook, I think the specs should be more than sufficient to run Safari smooth enough.
But doing some of the suggested tricks from the article I linked to above has improved my Safari lagging a whole deal :)
Safari
I've downloaded Chrome earlier and I noticed an improvement, but I believe I still had the busy issue. I don't remember how often, but I'll do some testing. Also, are you able to remap Voiceover command? There's a lot of useful ones, but none of them really have convenient keyboard commands.
Thanks!
Safari
I've been rolling with the base model 16 in MBP. I haven't had any noticeable slowdowns with Safari except on very resource-heavy sites. Just to make sure my brain hasn't been filtering out delays, I tried opening up Safari and going on Reddit. It takes about 3 seconds to load Safari, and then it takes another 3 seconds to load reddit. I'm running 10.15.4 and connected via 5 GHz Wireless N to a 100 Mbps connection. It actually takes longer to load some sites on my desktop running NVDA and Firefox.
Normal Behavior
Sadly, this is normal VoiceOver behavior. I'm certain it's VoiceOver, because if the browser was acting like that for sighted people, you'd better believe Apple would have it fixed pronto!
It's the unfortunate truth that the Mac is no longer an important product for Apple. VoiceOver isn't receiving the attention it should, and no one at Apple cares. I hate to say this, I really do. However, having tried to get Apple to drastically improve the situation by sending numerous bug reports for the past 6 years has resulted in nothing. iOS is the future, and that's all they care about anymore. My Mac runs Windows 10, and I very rarely boot into Catalina.
Amazon fix
Hello,
There is a way to fix the amazon issue with getting stuck in reviews without turning off javascript. Open up the VoiceOver utilities settings. Go Next go to the navigation category. Once that is selected vo right arrow till you hear mouse pointer.. The very next item is a pop up button. Activate it and make sure it is on ignores vo cursor. This should fix the issue with getting stuck in the reviews. What is happening is that when a sighted user hovers the mouse over the stars rating after the item title it brings up the reviews. For some reason vo gets stuck in it and it is near impossible to get out of it.
VoiceOver and Safari
I find it extremely rare for VoiceOver to announce busy when using Safari. I'm not saying that Safari is perfect as I have found a couple of bugs which I reported to Apple, but getting the busy announcement doesn't happen hardly at all on my 2013 iMac and on my 2019 MacBook Pro. My first thought is that maybe the pages in question are still loading. Are you sure you have a solid internet connection? Speed Test for the Mac is accessible. Try to see if you have good download speeds. What happens if you try to save the page as a web archive to your local hard drive and try opening it from there? Do you still get the busy announcement? You can also email accessibility@apple.com with the web archive attached and let them know the problems you are having. Something else has to be going on here. I use both of my Mac's daily and honestly don't recall the last time I got the busy announcement in Safari. It's extremely rare.
accessibility of google chrome?
Hi.
My knolledge on the matter might be outdated quite heavily, but as far as I know, chrome wasn't accessible on mac OS some months ago. Did that suddenly change or am i confusing Chrome and Firefox here?
as I said earlier, it's still MacBook against Surface book for me.
Greetings Moritz.
Mac Slow with VoiceOver
It's not just Safari when users get busy, busy, busy. I get that VoiceOver announcemene when using contacts and calendar as well. It's quite disconcerting but I usually just use my iPhone instead.
Change web navigation settings
This should help maybe. Go to the voice over utility with voice over F8, and then press command five to go to web navigation. Change the setting to Dom order, and not grouping. I find that that is way better when using the web. And your website that you visit will make more sense.
