don't bother waisting your time with the Facebook Messenger app for the Mac. it is a very slow and sluggish app with VoiceOver. their is a message bubble area which makes VoiceOver keep rerepeeting the reasent chats and message history. when you make a video or voice call, the window is inaccessible. tried to submit feedback to Facebook, but their feedback form is unusable with VoiceOver. there are reviews for this app in the Mac app store, and all but one are bad. If you really want to video chat or voice call on the mac, Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are your only options.
I just ended a video call with a friend on this app. it was reasenable accessible with VoiceOver. Why I said it was inaccessible was that I had a call come in as I was video calling some else. It was almost fullly accessible. when I went to the video call option the window came up as normally would on the Facebook website in Microsoft, and the app did something Facebook on the web never does. when the video call was answered by the other party, VoiceOver said, "Connecting," which was useful, as I have a slow wifi connection. when the call was ended, there was no end call screen, which was expected, other than that small thing, accessiblity of the Facebook Messenger app for the mac for video and voice calls is very good. chats are another stiry though.
Yes, I downloaded the app this morning. I am struggling to access it using Voiceover but would be interested if you've had any experiences/success with it thus far?
Hmmm. Very interesting. I don't do much video calling, but would mostly use it for messaging. What is wrong with the way it works? Can you describe the app layout?
Back when I had my very first Macbook pro, I remember using Adium, and absolutely loved it. That was an amazing way to use fb chat. Sadly it stopped working some time ago, and I don't know if they ever bothered to try and get it working again as for some time, the Messages app also supported it. But then facebook killed off a certain api that allowed third party services to connect to the chat. Messenger on the iPhone and iPad works okay, but I would much rather do a lot of that on the mac when I get it. And not having facebook site actually open to do it is pretty nice, as fb has gotten rather bloated over the years.
accross the top, all recent chats and active people are displayed as links. then going down, is the videocall and audiocall buttons for your current conversation. when you activate a link, your placed in a text field for the person you want to chat with. the big problem with this app is when you want to navagate through a chat history. VoiceOver says "Message Buggle" and it is very sluggish and slow. if you want to email me about this app, my email is daniel.angus.macdonald@gmail.com
