Hi all,
I'm due an upgrade and was thinking of moving from iPhone 8 to 11 or 11pro. However, before I do two quick questions. Is it worth as a totally blind person going for the pro? I seem to think I read that really the pro is more for camera use and therefore not really of much use to a blind person? second, I believe there is no home button on the 11 so from the box how would I manage to turn on VO so that I could set the phone up? Or, do you need sighted help to start off the process. Any help appreciated.

Hi Lee. Indeed, the key differences between the two are an additional camera and a higher quality screen. The other thing is that the Pro is marginally smaller, but there’s not much in it. So there’s no right answer, but personally I went for the regular iPhone 11.
No you do not need sighted assistance. VoiceOver is turned on by triple pressing the power button.

I have one and the battery is great. I charge my phone every 2 days. I can play and audiobook for more than 12 hours and still have battery. Is fast and when iOS 14 comes this year, it will be much better.

Hi,

Although the iPhone 11 series are great phones, they are pretty expensive and bulky (they are not that pocketable and with a case that could be exaserbated.) Personally, I’d suggest getting an iPhone SE 2nd generation, which went on pre-order yesterday. It's $300 cheaper than the base model iPhone 11 and will work with the cases you use for your iPhone 8 and any spare iPhone 8 screen protectors you have lying around. If you are OK with sticking with Touch ID for a few more years, the new SE is a great deal, seeing as it has mostly the same internals as the pricier 11 and 11 Pro.

Sincerely,
Maddy
