Accessibility Comments

AppleVis Editorial Team Note:
We have made changes to the accessibility ratings based on the latest user comment.

Original Poster Note:
The app appears to be almost entirely accessible. Buttons all appear to be labeled. Some are rather sloppily so, but it is still easy, based on the labels, to figure out what they do. There is one place at the very top of the app that simply clicks when VoiceOver forucs is moved to it, though it appears, based on both deduction and what vision I have, to just be the CBS logo. I am not sure, however, whether the logo is linked to anything, but, when I double-tap it, it does nothing.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads most page elements.

Button Labeling

Most buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some accessibility issues with this app, but it can still be used if you are willing to tolerate these issues and learn how to work around them.

Other Comments

Not sure if this is a VoiceOver issue, but, according to the description, it looks like the app should have multiple sections for TV schedules, My CBS and live video chats. However, it appears that only past episodes and nothing more can be seen on the front page of the app. When you click on an episode, it tells you at what time it airs and does have separate sections for photos, video, etc., so this may be what is meant in the description.

This app is not really that accessible for a totally blind person. How do You use it? Please contact me at 404-996-6731 or email me at audioguy@samobile.net. Thanks!

I agree with the above comment. If you go into the list of shows using this app, Voiceover doesn't read the names of the shows. It just tells you how many episodes there are. So as you flick through the list, you'll hear something like, "7 episodes, 35 episodes..." I've emailed CBS about this twice so far and have just gotten a form response saying it was forwarded to the proper department. I stopped paying for All Access because of this issue.

I use the CBS All Access app on my iPhone, along with the third and fourth generations of the Apple TV. Admitedly, the iPhone app is rather frustrating. However, the app works very well on both the third and fourth generations of the Apple TV. In fact, it's a pleasure to use on the Apple TV platforms. You can manage the app on the iPhone but you are forced into opening up every single show until you find the one you are looking for, not something I plan on doing, but it is possible.

The computer is definitely easier to use than this app. Since we now have All Access, I was hoping to be able to log in and watch shows on my phone too. But there's just a list of programs and no place, as far as I can tell, that you can log in to All Access.

7.0 of this app was just released with a new interface and I'm not sure if this was accidental or purposely done, but it appears to be fully accessible! Thanks cbs!

As of version 7.3.10. The media player seems not very friendly. For example, once the show is playing, I can't seem to just do a double tap to open the media player. I must turn off VoiceOver and do a single tap on to the screen and then turn the VoiceOver back on to see the media player components. I also have the issue that it doesn't always remember that I have selected AD for my option. As I am having to turn on AD every so often.

Would like to see if others are haing the same issue or not.
