King of Dragon Pass

Description of App

Create your own epic saga of conflict, mythology, and community! This acclaimed game of magical storytelling blends interactive stories and resource management. It’s set in Glorantha (the world of the games HeroQuest, RuneQuest, and soon 13th Age). It’s immensely replayable, thanks to over 575 interactive scenes and two objectives. Short episodes and automatic saving mean you can play even when you only have a minute or two. The built-in saga writes down the story for you. And advisors with distinctive personalities help you track your cows. The gorgeous hand-painted artwork won Best Visual Arts at the second Independent Games Festival. • It's like they took the best parts of Civilization games and combined them with the best part of Choose Your Own Adventure style game books. … What I like most about King of Dragon Pass is the seemingly infinite possibilities that the game has. … I can't get enough of King of Dragon Pass. [Touch Arcade] • A wholly unique adventure that has no equal on the iPhone. [Pocket Gamer] • An interactive story with a level of complexity and brilliance that's rarely seen in video games. [Gamezebo] Players say: • I am really happy to have found this game. It scratches so many itches: simulator, rpg, adventure book...Great work! I find myself playing it on both my iPad and iPhone. Very addictive! • I got this game at 6pm tonight. It's now 4am, and I've hardly scratched the surface of the depth of this game. • I now have a fun, engaging, thought provoking RPG on my iPhone, an RPG that fits in my purse and that I can play any time I want, not having to have my computer or Xbox 360 near me to do so. • If Bioware remade Civilization they'd be lucky to end up half as good as King of Dragon Pass. • It's impossible to describe the emotional tug you feel when an old and trusted advisor, who you've watched grow from a young upstart, dies of old age. Or when an exploration team disappears into the wilds, never to be heard from again. Or when a cursed clansman, shunned by his peers, sacrifices himself to stop a raid. This game will never leave my iPhone. That's the only accolade possible.

Accessibility Comments

The developer, A-Sharp, has been fantastic in regards to accessibility. I saw a largely unplayable game on September 8TH when it originally came to the App Store, but with some help, the developer was able to make it a very playable game, as it is now.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and use.

Other Comments

If anyone has any concerns about accessibility, the interface or anything else, contact the developer @kingdragonpass on Twitter. Another way is by emailing support@a-sharp.com. Otherwise, enjoy the game!

The advisors take a bit of getting used to. It's worth noting that in the new spiritual sequel, Six Ages, the recommendations are passed on to VoiceOver. This wasn't true in KoDP.

All I can suggest is that you make sure to have VoiceOver Hints on, and tap through each advisor in sequence. It should read the advice as it changes.

Hi:
I've just bought a Mac and want to get as many of the good games I play on iOS on the Mac if possible. Does King of Dragon Pass work with VoiceOver on the Mac? I already know the Steam version doesn't work with screen readers on Windows, but here's hoping that VoiceOver on the Mac might have a better time with the game in the Mac App Store.

I have been playinng this for ages and have a new experience and saga all the time.
I have never completed it and suck at hero quests.
I have never beaten it.,
I had my staff hooked too Cannot help you with mac..

I am still playing every day. I let my staff try but the first thing she did was to mess up.
The game is awesome on the iPad. I have it on my phone too.
I think I am aweful at hero quests though.
I love the replay value.
The music is cool. I especially like fire season.
The thing on the iPad is that there are some buttons that is somewhere else that you need to find. Except for that I recomend using the iPad.

Hi all. So, I have a question about completing the tutorial. If something should happen to my iPhone, e.g. I get a new one, or have to perform a reset, which would result in the game’s deletion, would I have to redo the tutorial after I reinstall?
Thank you for your help.

This is not the case. I have done this several times. It will also save settings, but the game is lost if you reinstall it.

Hi everyone! So recently I downloaded this game. It’s been pretty fun. But my most recent crisis has got to be food. What’s the fastest way to get food other than trading. I’m getting tired of sending people only for them not coming back. Also, how do I perform quests? What is the correct sacrifice to do them. I’ve sacrificed millions of times and I still can’t perform any of them. Each time I do, the people I sent fall down to the bottom of the earth.

Remember that this is an agrarian society. The greatest mount of your food should come from your own fields and herds. If you're at an early point in the game, get your farmers planting as much cropland as they can handle, with blessings from Barntar of course, and if you can afford it buy small herds of cattle to start building up your herds. Remember that the cow is all important; from the cow comes food, wealth and status, not to mention the happiness of your carls.

As for hero quests:

Most of them should be done only if: (a) you have a strong quester i.e. someone with renowned or better appropriate skills in the required field and )b) you have high enough magic to support the quester. FOr this reason I usually start questing heavily around mid-game; by this time, I have a thriving economy, my people are usually in a reasonable or better mood and I know the mysteries that can keep the clan fed.

The developer of this game is currently working to release another, which should be out this summer. At this point, it might be a good idea to suggest a game reboot for KODP when he has time in his very busy schedule. In the meantime, enjoy the game and contact the developer about any issues or suggestions; even if he can’t fix them at this point in time he’s a cool person to talk to about his games and VoiceOver.
