I didn't listen to this podcast yet, but the last time I tried to do this it only worked if all of the recipients were using iMessage, i.e., if everyone had an iOS device.
This would be a readlly handy feature because of how Apple is now showing messages on the locked screen. I frequently get group messages with 8-10 recipients. rather than saying something quick and simple like "message to group...", VoiceOver lists all of the names and/or phone numbers in the list before it speaks the actual mesage. This is extremely frustrating when listening to such a message on the locked screen and the entire message is that the last sender "liked" the previous message!
Well, I guess I'll listen to this podcast to see if the author found any "magic" that I missed. Hopefully Apple will address this situation. I did write a suggestion to the accessibility team. We'll see what happens.
Well, being socially isolated for a while now, I finally got around to listening to this podcast. Thanks Thomas for another well done and informative podcast.
I should have listened to this before posting my last comment about not being able to create a group name unless all of the recipients of the message were iOS users. As Thomas confirmed in the podcast, in order to do this everyone has to be an iOS user. So I guess I'm out of luck because only about half the people from whom I routinely get these group messages from that have 8-10 recipients are Apple folks.
Interestingly, on the locked screen, when my sighted wife receives such a message, the display shows only the first name or two of the recipients list followed by an ellipses. She doesn't have to see the entire list of recipients. It would be great if VoiceOver does this. However it seems as if VoiceOver is reading the entire text of that display even though most of it isn't shown to sighted users. Thus the VoiceOver user has to listen to every single recipient before hearing the actual message.
Oh well.
Thanks anyway and keep up the good work. I always enjoy your podcasts!
