Seeking Assistance for the Logitech K380 Bluetooth Keyboard

Alright, so from what I've been able to gather online regarding this keyboard, it's been around for a little while. After listening to last week's RNIB podcast, where Steven Scott did a demo of the Logitech K380, I decided to give it a shot and bought one of my very own.

So far, I'm impressed on it's size and build quality, and for the price, it looks like a pretty decent little keyboard.

Now the issues I'm running into, although it may sound ridiculous to some, but I can't seem to find any physical description of the keyboard. Kind of wished that David Woodbridge would have done a podcast on this, as he tends to go in extreme detail when it comes to describing hardware.

For starters, I did find the power switch, and I'm guessing that moving the power switch down is the ON position and flicking it up puts it in the OFF position.

I guess the part I seem to have difficulties with is figuring out where the three keys, to toggle between devices, are located.

Using the French Canadian keyboard layout, as I'm Canadian and happen to speak French, the first top row of buttons seem to be, from left to right, the Escape key, then your F1-F12 keys, then two buttons that I'm not quite sure are exactly. Then below that row, I'm guessing the number sign button, then you have your number row from 1 to 0, with your dash and equal button. From what I can understand, the number 1, 2 and 3 buttons seem to be the three buttons to toggle between connected devices.

I've tried turning this keyboard on and pressing on the 1, 2 and 3 number keys, even on the F1, F2 and F3 keys and I still can't see the keyboard in the list of discoverable Bluetooth items on my iPhone's Bluetooth settings.

I'm just curious to know if I've got the power button and the 3 device buttons figured out. Would appreciate any assistance from anyone out there.

Thanks!

On the switch, up, towards the part that is about a half an inch from the top is on, down, towards the majority of the keyboard is off. The keys to set the bluetooth are f1-f3.

Hi, I've used this keyboard for a few years now. The previous poster is correct for the fn key positions and the power switch. In order to pair or re-pair the keyboard to a device, you have to hold down the desired pairing key for a few moments. If you have some light perception then you will know it is in pairing mode by the blinking LED above each pairing key. Once your devices are paired, you can switch easily between them simply by pressing the key for the device you want.

Thanks everyone for the information. Just to clarify, I was definitely mistaken about the power switch, but in my defence, when I originally got the keyboard, the power switch was already in the ON position, so I thought that there is no way I would have gotten a keyboard that was already powered on, so I thought that that when the switch was away from me, that was the OFF position. When trying to figure out the three device buttons, all of the YouTube videos I listened to were not very clear, as most of them either said to press one of the Easy Switch buttons, or press number 1, 2 or 3 buttons, and one YouTuber even said to press the yellow buttons.

Now I cannot fault them as I am sure these videos were mainly meant for sighted people, but I was kind of hoping that maybe one of them might even give a little hint as to which buttons were used.

That is why I thought of posting something on AppleVis instead.

So far, managed to get my iPhone paired to it, and will try and get my Mac and Apple TV paired this week.

So far, I am definitely liking it, although I am having difficulties remembering where to find the apostrophe so I can type contractions. I did find the key combination to switch between the English and French keyboard layout, but when I switch to French, VoiceOver changes the voice to French, which I would much rather prefer keeping in English.

On my Windows machine at work, although I have an English keyboard, I set my keyboard layout to French Canadian so I can easily access the various French punctuation's.

I will just have to take some time and play around with the different keys. I do believe that you can turn on the keyboard help and try pressing various keystrokes to see what each of them does. I did go into the Accessibility settings, under VoiceOver and Commands to check out the various keyboard shortcuts, but none of them seem to work.

Anyways, the joys of learning a new toy. Thanks again for everyone's feedback, it is greatly appreciated.

Alright, so I managed to pair the keyboard with my Mac and will pair it with my Apple TV sometime today, but after finding a list of keyboard shortcuts for iOS, more specifically the one for toggling the screen curtain, I'm left scratching my head a little.

So looking at the keyboard, the top most row from left to right, I thought the first button was the Escape key, followed by the F1, F2, F3 and so on until you get to the F12, leaving two buttons to the most right, with the last key assuming it is the Delete key (not to be confused with the Backspace).

After trying out the keyboard shortcut for toggling the screen curtain (VO+F11), I realized that, what I thought was the F12 key, actually is the F11 key. So if that is the case, the key I thought was the F1, the key to the right of the Escape key, might not be the F1 key. Because if you assume the F1 key is to the right of the Escape key and count from F1 to F12, the F12 key is the third key from the right, but when you toggle the screen curtain, the F12 is actually F11, making me extremely confused. Because if the second key from the right is actually the F12 key, if you count down from F12 to F1, then the F1 key is the third key from the left, two keys right of the Escape key.

I know, I might be making something out of nothing, but I'm one of those that likes to have some idea of which key is where on my keyboard, so I have a visual idea. And for those wondering, I lost my eyesight after having vision until I was 16 and low-vision (tunnel vision) until about 9 years ago. So although I may currently be completely blind now, I did have usable vision for most of my life, so I still tend to think, at times in a visual manner.

Does anyone know exactly, from left to right, what the keys are on the top row?

Thanks!

If you turn on voiceover help (vo k) voiceover will announce the keys as you press them. No action is taken after the key press. To exit voiceover help press the escape key.

From the right you have delete, insert with a speaker thing and a light then f12. Maybe voiceover has the wrong shortcut for screen curtain, or your keyboard is using a different layout because of the language or something.

I had already tried turning Keyboard Help on to see if I can make sense of that top row, and when I press the second key from the right, the one to the left of the Delete key, VoiceOver says its the F12. If I continue pressing F11 downwards, VO reads out F11, F10, then doesn't read out F9, then it reads F8, then doesn't read F7, then pressing F6 is read as Home and Keyboard Help stops and I'm returned to the Home screen. Then pressing F5 reads nothing, then F4 is read as "Up Arrow, Move to First Item", then F3 is read as Home and, the same as F6, brings me to the Home screen and stops Keyboard Help. Then pressing on the F2 and F1 doesn't read anything.

I've even deleted all of my keyboards, added the English US keyboard and turned on Keyboard Help again, and all of the F keys are read exactly the same as before.

So I'm stumped as to why the keyboard is confusing the F keys this way.

I use a Logitech K480. The top row of keys on this keyboard are dual function keys. To act as F1 ...F12 keys it is necessary to also hold down the fn key.Pressing the default function keys causes unpredictable results with voiceover help. Does the K380 have an fn key?

By That Blind Canuck on Sunday, March 22, 2020 - 12:50

Thanks Frankd, I gave it a try and sure enough, while in Keyboard Help, VoiceOver does indeed read out the function keys when holding down the FN key. I kind of feel stupid not having thought of that before. It's been such a long time since I had a keyboard paired to my iPhone, that I kind of forgot a lot of shortcuts, so it's been a little bit of a learning curve trying to get myself familiarized with one again.

One small other simple question, those additional controls, like F12 for increasing the volume and F11 for decreasing the volume, and F10 for muting the sound, what are the other controls again? I know that there are controls for playing/pausing, skip ahead and skip backwards.

I've searched online and, either there is nothing online, or I am not using the proper words to search.

Thanks!

Hello,
First of all, I am using this keyboard with an iPad mini 6th generation; now I'd like to assist you about K380 function keys.
As other people already say, you have the first 3 buttons after Escape, that are used to change devices. F1, f2 and f3.
Then you have F4, which takes you to HOME screen; just press it twice rapidly to access app Switcher.
Then you have the F5 which takes you to the first element of screen, as far as I can say - but i am not sure of function. Same for f6 which does not give any feedback, while f7 is another alternative to Esc - it gives this feedback to me.
F8 is Track backwards -in music or media-, F9 is play, F10 track forward, F11 mute.
Then you have volume down and upl.
Then you have the last key -delete?- which does nothing - at least on my machine.
I am counting meys from the very left, the upper line of keyboard.
But now trouble comes:

Someone of you has managed to access control center and notification center via keyboard?
I do not manage to do it myself, with this Logitech key!
Someone has played the trick?
Thanks!

Hi, you can press VO+M to get to the status bar, then option+up arrow will take you to notifications and option+down arrow will take you to Control center. HTH.

hello, thanks.
Vo+m status bar and then option+up or option+down arrow - the commands to scroll up and down-.
It was that simple...
Thanks

Hello, just a quick note about keyboard: I noticed that with my iPad's smart cover closed, and iPad locked, if I press f4 on the k380 -home button- then again f4, and it prompts me for touch ID or code, I type the code on the keyboard and iPad unlocks, without caring about its cover.
So, I can work with iPad closed as a book just keeping it in my rucksack and with keyboard on my knees and airpods on my ears.
Or better, Bose frames.
"what are you doing with keyboard in your hands" ... nothing. just pretending to play :D
But, I do not find a keyboard way to block the iPad, I must wait for it to lock by itself after its time setting.
