I have an old windows XP laptop that has a bunch of favorites on it that I want to transfer to my MacBook Pro running Mojave. is there an easy way to do this?
I haven't used Internet Explorer in years, but my understanding is that you can export your favorites as a HTM file from within the program, save it to an external storage medium or email it, and then import it into Safari by choosing File > Import Bookmarks.
I don't think there is an option in Windows XP to export favorites as HTM files. The file extension in windows XP for bookmarks is .URL. my favorites are all on an external hard drive.
We were still using Windows XP at the bank where I work in 2014. You should be able to export your favorites from the file menu in I.E. It should indeed save it as an HTM file, though even if it doesn't, you should be able to import the file it does generate. You can certainly do so through newer Internet Explorers and Chrome, which stands to reason Safari should also work. Failing that htough, you could always import it to a new I.E. or Chrome, then export from there. Hopefully that helps.
i'll try it. I've been busy this evening updating my Mac to Catalina. if I don't get to it tonight I should be able to get to it tomorrow. thanks. i'm not very familiar with the file menu in Internet explorer because I just haven't had to use it much, so it's probably in there and I just don't know it.
