Hello to all,
After a long wait for iOS 13.2, I decided to pull the trigger and upgrade my iPhone 8 Plus for an iPhone 11. Sadly though, when I got to the store, they didn't have my model in stock so they have to order it.
My issue is that, prior to leaving for the store, I backed up my iPhone to my Mac and restored it. Sadly, since I was still on iOS 12.4.1, when restoring, I had no choice and had to restore my phone to iOS 13.2, which is fine.
When I came back from the store without my new phone, I simply plugged in my phone and restored it. Since I was now on iOS 13.2, I thought I could take this opportunity and update my Apple Watch Series 4, HomePod and Apple TV. All the updates went rather smoothly without any hiccups... so I thought.
The issue mainly resides on my Apple Watch. Prior to updating, my watch was running Watch OS 5.3.3 and I had both the Minnie and Mickey faces. When I updated to Watch OS 6.1 and tap the faces to hear either Minnie or Mickey speak, I just hear VoiceOver reading aloud what Minnie or Mickey would had said.
I know in the past, you might hear a compact version of Minnie and Mickey's voice, but after leaving your watch on the charger for 20 minutes while on WI-fi, the watch would download the high quality voices.
Now, like I said, I don't even hear the compact version of their voices, just the Samantha VoiceOver voice reading the same words as Minnie or Mickey would had said, minus the additional chuckles that Minnie or Mickey would add at the end.
Now while I was backing up my phone and then restoring it, I never did anything to the watch. When I restored the phone, the watch just worked as always. So since I'm getting my new phone later this week, I thought I would not reset the watch and wait until I have to back up my phone again, prior to restoring to my new phone. I was going to reset the watch prior to backing up and then set it up as new on the new phone.
Hopefully this might solve my issues, I kind of hope.
The other issue I've encountered, and this could also be fixed once I reset, is that I am no longer able to install apps to the watch.
Usually, I would open the Watch app, go to the list of available apps, and tap their respective Install button. Now when I try it, VoiceOver starts reading "Downloading 0%" and focus jumps elsewhere and when I go back to the app, the button returns to saying Install.
If I try again, the button changes to "Downloading 0%" and remains that way for a long time. I thought maybe if I left it alone for 20-30 minutes, maybe it might install the app, but after the allotted time has passed, the button still says "Downloading 0%".
Like I said, I am hoping that once I reset the watch and set it up as new on my new phone, I hope that this might correct these bugs. But just in case, I thought I would mention it here in case others may have encountered these issues and might have a fix.
Thanks and hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Mickey/Minnie's Voices
Alright, so after a bit of playing around, I did discover something rather interesting.
It appears that since Watch OS 6, if you enable the setting to have the Minnie or Mickey watch faces speak, when you turn off VoiceOver and do a two-finger tap and hold, you hear Minnie/Mickey correctly.
As soon as you turn VoiceOver back on, VoiceOver goes back to speaking Minnie and Mickey's lines.
Not sure if this new two-finger gesture for the sighted community might have had a unwanting side effect, but it appears that this could be the reason... not really sure.
Not sure about Minnie, but...
Howdy,
I do not know what is going on with Minnie, but I have had some other hiccups associated with my Apple Watch and the new 6 operating system.
I cannot seem to put different apps into the dock. For example, I want my favorites in the dock, and it used to be easy, but now I cannot figure out what taps, swipes, and drags might make it work, either on the watch or in the iPhone's Watch app.
I've also found it more difficult to swipe successfully between watch faces.
I have also noted that it tells me that it is in Watch Stand mode when I put the watch on a charger. Odd thing is that I have Night Stand mode turned off.
Does anyone know of a good list of current gestures on the Watch and what they are supposed to do? I've been using a watch since the model 3, but a refresher might prove useful, just to make sure that I am not the problem.

My mouse works well in watchOS6.1 and I use Siri female voice instead of Sam. The only issue I have is with monogram. Voiceover does not read the monogram.
issues with ini mouse voice and voiceover Siri voice..
Hi guys.
I know this is an older post. But I just got my Apple Watch series 5 a couple of days ago. After pairing and set up, I used the manual set up option, I tryed to change the voiceover voice to the siri voice. It’s toggled on in both the iPhone and Apple Watch. But the voiceover voice is still the uk English one. I’ve tryed doing a hard reset, leaving it on the charger and re-downloading the siri voice and I’ve checked my language and region to make sure they are both the same. But nothing works. Then I thought I would install the mini mouse voice. Again I tryed everything in the apple support article re the mini and Micky watch faces. But nothing. I then discovered by accident hat the only way I can get mini or Micky to work is if I turn voiceover off.
I’m on watch 6.1.1 and iPhone 11.
Does anyone know of a solution to this or am I just stuck with it?
The mini and Micky mouse voices were working with vo on my Apple Watch series 2 but I didn’t download watch OS 6.
.
Take care
Lou
Mostly Everything Seems to Be Working Again
Good morning, I thought I would provide a small update on some of the issues I was encountering.
For starters, all issues seem to have corrected themselves over time, all except one.
While VoiceOver is turned on, if I try and tap on either the Mickey or Minnie watch faces to have either of them speak, it is still VoiceOver that reads aloud what Mickey or Minnie would have spoken. When turning off VoiceOver and doing that two-finger tap and hold, then they speak as expected, but once VoiceOver is back on and I tap on either face, VoiceOver resumes speaking the words they would have spoken aloud.
I had mentioned this to Apple Accessibility back when and hopefully a fix will come out that will correct this.
I still fond that Minnie and Mickey's voices, with Minnie's being the loudest, are the best voices when trying to hear the time out and about.
Either than that, really enjoying Watch OS 6. Thanks!
Mickey Mouse
I just check and you have a bug. I added Mickey mouse from my iPhone and check my series 5 and he talk. No issues. Do you have current OS? I have OS 6.1 I believe.
Could Be Watch Sensitive
I had completely reset and reconfigured my watch and the bug persists. Not sure if the fact I have a Series 4 watch might be the reason for the bug, it could be only visible in Series 4 or older.
don't think it just affects watch series 4 or older.
Not sure if it’s watch sensitive or not.
I have both a series 2 and a series 5
I do not have the mini not speaking with VO issue on the series 2. But then I also don’t have watch OS 6 installed
I only got my Apple Watch series 5 a few days ago and it had 6.1 installed. I tried changing the VO voice to the siri one. But I couldn’t get it to work. I didn’t try mini or Micky until I installed the latest OS 6.1.1. Mini or Micky doesn’t speak when VO is running.
I don’t know if the two issues are related. Or if they are just two really annoying bugs and I don’t know how to fix it even if there is a way to fix it
Also are there any other issues that I should know about?
Thanks
Lou
Auto-Speak.
I don’t use Mickey or Minnie. However, the not speaking might be related to Auto-Speak. You can enable by scrolling or flicking past control panel on Watch face.
it's possible but not likely
I don’t think so, Toggling it either on or off has no effect. Incidentally
toggling it on or off didn’t stop mini or Micky speaking with VO in previous OS versions as far as I’m aware.
. Thanks anyway though
.
N Auto-Speak for Minnie or Mickey
I just double checked and when focus is on the area where Minnie or Mickey speaks the time, a.k.a. the clock, if I swipe up or down with one finger, there is no option for auto-speak.
The only options I get is for the Notification and Control Centres.
I've just given up on this as, no matter what I try to do, nothing seems to fix it. It's a shame as I loved hearing Minnie's voice read out the time, and I also found she was the loudest voice, so much easier to hear when I'm out and about.
locating auto-speak
I didn’t find auto-speak when VO was focused on the time. To reach auto-speak just flick to either the left or the right of the time and then flick up.
It seems to be toggled off as default. Though toggling it on didn’t do anything for me. Toggling it on then re-starting the watch didn’t have any effect either in fact . when I check it was back to being disabled.
.
I’m really not entirely sure what auto-speak does as enabling it doesn’t seem to change the behaviour of the watch in any significant way that I can tell.
I also liked the mini voice because of her loudness it was so much easier to hear when out and about. I noticed that the Siri voice is also louder than the VO voice even on the highest volume . But I’m unable to set that one as my VO voice either.
.
Is it everyone who is on watch OS 6.1.1 or 6.1 that is having these issues or is it just some people?
Tested
Auto-Speak relates to Complications. Each complication has its own auto-speak that can be enabled.
I have 4 Complications, Mail, time, Battery and Messages. VO not only speaks my time, but the other complications without swiping.
I’m not sure why you guys are experiencing this issue. I tested both Minnie and Mickey on Series 5 running 6.1. No issues with mine.
Thanks
thanks.
OK that doesn’t seem to happen when I turn on auto-speak. VO just reads out the time as normal .
When focused on just the time or the place mini or Micky would have spoke there is no option for auto-speak. But that would make sense. Btw it’s like that for all the watch faces.
All the complications do have auto-speak which is turned off by default.
The interesting thing is on my watch I can turn them on , however if I turn. Off the watch or switch watch faces. they are all set back asS off when I switch back . In other words the changes don’t seem to be retained. Not sure if this is normal or not but guessing not.
I’m wondering if the best thing to do is unpair and reset the watch and start off all over again.
Auto-Speak
It’s normal to disable auto-speak when powered off. When you enable the ones you want, lock watch face. Change will take effect within a couple minutes.
I understand now
.
Ah I see it’s a function that works when water lock is enabled.
I don’t use water lock often except for when swimming which I don’t do enough though it’s handy for when it’s tipping it down outside.
I tried it under water lock and yes it does work.
Didn’t salve my mini not speaking with VO issue though.
In fact now mini won’t ’ speak even if voiceover is turned on now lol.
Oh well, guess I’m going to have to go back through the apple s support options for why mini and Micky won’t speak .
Btw doing this last time didn’t get it to speak with vo.
Thanks for the water lock tip though.
odd workaround
Ok so I tried unpairing my watch then setting to factory settings and setting it back up again as new.
This had absolutely no effect . When I tried to select Siri as vo language I got a message stating that this wouldn’t work with my language and region so I went into the language and region settings under the watch app on the iphone to check that it was both set up the same, . My language was set to English Uk and my region set to Uk so guess that function isn’t available in the Uk
Anyway when I selected custom and selected my watch language as us English mini started reading out the time. Basically it seems that mini and Micky speak the time when V`o is on but only when English US is selected. It doesn’t seem to work under any other English such as Canadian English, uk English or Australian English under the watch language. Changing the region doesn’t seem to have any effect. Right now my watch language is set to English US and my region is set to uk. Really can’t say why it only seems to work under Us English. it’s working at the moment. But I haven’t placed it on the charger for the evening..
Not sure if this will help anyone else or not.
Mickey
Well that is because both are from Florida and not Canada. Can you picture both talking like a british or Australian or Canadian? Even Donold Duck? That will could be fun.
Glad you found a workaround.
Glad you found a workaround. For licensing reasons, US voice makes sense.
I wasn’t referring to WaterLock, but Tap to Mute to lock. LOL! Anyways, happy you got it working.
