Fitbit vs. Apple watch

Hello,

I am looking at getting a fitness tracker and am looking at the Fitbit and the Apple watch. I am totally blind and I have a few questions.
Can the Fitbit be completely controlled by the app, and is the app accessible? I am totally blind so would not be able to interact with the device directly.
Would you all recommend the Apple watch over the fitbit? I don't need any of the advanced functionality of the Apple watch, but I would use it if I had it.

The Fitbit App is accessible to a degree, but the Apple Watch App is completely compatible with VoiceOver. The FitBit itself is not accessible at all, but the Apple Watch is very easy to navigate. Dispite being more pricy, Iā€™d highly recommend the Apple Watch.

I have series 5 and like it. Last year a friend gave me series 3. She was nice for it and like it so much that I got series 5. It is easy to use and with siri voice easy to understand. It is so easy to use that my cat Bella could use it. There are podcast apple wach 101 by Davidin applevis. check them out. web.

When I was first considering the Fitbit versus the Apple Watch, I did my homework. I quickly determined that, despite the much higher cost of the watch, it would serve me so much more than the Fitbit ever could. Not only do I have a full workout and activity package to aid in my fitness journey, but I can do so many more things. Yes, the Fitbit can be controlled somewhat, but I decided that I didn't want the device for just one purpose, when the Apple Watch could serve me much more effectively, way beyond the original reason why I purchased it, which was for the workout and activity apps. I encourage you to try the Apple Watch. I don't think you will be disappointed. Another poster recommended the podcasts done by David Woodbridge. I found them to be a very valuable resource when I first got my watch.

One of my reasons for purchasing the Apple Watch is because I get so much more mileage out of one device. The Fitbit or other similar bands can only be useful for workouts and activity monitoring, and you simply do not have much feedback, besides. The Apple Watch not only covers the bases for your workouts but can be used as a timer, phone calls, texting, and so much more. In my opinion, I think the Apple Watch just has so much more going for it.

Do you all actually find that you use and enjoy the apple watch? I feel like I wouldn't really use a lot of the features that it offers since I have my iPhone.

I was a little skeptical about the Apple Watch in the beginning, I just wanted it for fitness tracking, but I can't live without it nowadays, and I sometimes try for some hours to take it off my wrist and end always missing it. It is not essencial, but if set up in the right way, and it depends from person to person and takes some introspection, it is a great device. The introspection needed is to define which notifications are essencial to you and should vibrate your wrist and which are not essencial and you can live without knowing imediately on your watch, otherwise your arm will be on vibrate land all the time.

Besides using it for tracking workouts I use it to tell time, it is great to flick the wrist to have time spoken while listening to podcasts or books in the phone without interrupting them, and it is also amazing to have time tapped silently.

The activity rings are a good motivational tool, the Breathe app is great to take a minute to relax and having a device tracking the heart and monitoring for falls, although not life changing, is good to live with even less fear. And training with only the watch and AirPods is also great!

For me, what makes the watch great are the watch faces and complications. I don't know if I am the only one who does this, but I have more than 15 faces configured, each with its complications, and I change them, from left to right, according to the moment of my day. From morning meditation to info I need before leaving home, to workout apps, than to get the weather and temperature before leaving to work, another to see my appointments during work, one to relax in the underground going home, one to prepare my next day and others to relax depending on what I do in the evening.

The great thing is to have all the information I need in the watch face and it is much quicker to flick the wrist and hear it than to pick the phone and find the app I need and find the information I want. And the ability to enable auto-speak in the complications I want to hear every time I flick my wrist is great, I only discovered it after some months.

There are some accessibility bugs, some complication slots can't be opened with VoiceOver for instance, and having to put the watch in Theater Mode every meal is annoying (otherwise it tells the time every time I move the fork, as I want it to automatically speak on wrist raise), but I really like and now I can't live without the watch.

I use it when I fall sleep to check my heart and also I do use message to respond when I am using phone to listen to an audiobook. This way I do not need to stop my music or book from phone. I also use it to check weather with weather gods. Many many other things.

Absolutely, I recommend the watch. It will, in a lot of instances, allow you to leave home without your iPhone. I have the series 4 watch that has both cellular and WiFi, and I can do tons of the same things with either device. It is worth the price.

Although I have never been skeptical, regarding the Apple Watch, I wholeheartedly agree with how this poster handles their watch. I have also never considered configuring so many faces, but I can certainly see some more great ways to insert my watch even more into my days. Diogo , thanks for telling us of your day and how you have implemented your watch.

You're welcome ;) I forgot to mention that I keep the watch on mute, so I only get vibrations when I receive a notification, there is some difference between activity, messages and WhatsApp notifications, but it would be great to configure more customized vibrations, as the messages, calendar and reminders vibrations are the same. And have silent alarms during the day on my wrist only is great and discreet

This sadley does not work for me Using Series 5 and mute does not work well. Still get ringtone when I get a call.
