Accessibility Comments

The game is still playable after the latest update, but the accessibility is really all over the place. Up on first starting, you are presented with a what's new blurb. The only way I found to get rid of it is by removing the app from your switcher and opening it again. Then, most of the buttons in the main menu are unlabelled. If this is your first time playing, you get a tutorial which as of writing has 7 pages that you need to advance by flicking left with 3 fingers. When you get to the last page, you need to turn off VO and turn it on again to see the close button. Thankfully, this only happens once. after you enter the game, all the controls there read perfectly, the devs going as far as adding hints to them. The gameplay works just like before, and you can see some comments on it below.Original comments for v2.1: Apart from some of the buttons having slightly verbose labels, it's pretty accessible. At times, you will get tutorial popups and it might look like you're stuck. For those, you just need to double-tap to advance to the next screen and eventually it will go away. When you're guessing, the first letter is given as the text fields label (the part spoken in the low pitched voice), but not entered. I'm not sure if you do need to enter it or not since I played with a bluetooth keyboard and just always entered it.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads most page elements.

Button Labeling

Most buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some accessibility issues with this app, but it can still be used if you are willing to tolerate these issues and learn how to work around them.

Other Comments

This game is really enjoyable, especially if you have an external keyboard. It has a lot of sounds and music so it's definitely interesting. There could be small tweeks made that would improve the experience even more, like automatically reading new categories as they come up, but I'd still like to recommend this game to everyone. Especially because it's free.

I've also given this game a try, too. At the end of a game, iyoucan double tap a word in the list that pops up of your ansers, to get correct spellings and such, it automatically changes. If you got an answer incorrect, you can double tap to view an example of a correct answer. You can also use Jokers which do diffferent things, such as allowing you to lock the category and letter, or gives four different answers, or automatically enters a correct answer.

hi, i just wanted to warn you that i contacted 94-seconds developer privately about voiceover issues documented in this article and he answered me as follows: --- Thank you so much for your mail! Indeed, we know VoiceOver, but we forgot to integrate it well on our app. We corrected it two days ago, so it will be available in the next update on iPhone and iPad. --- it's just matter of time! I hope he'd accept my help to translate it into italian language, it's a bit complicated when you have words games written in a language you are not properly familiar with. I have no problems with english but when there is a word game based on guessing or association or anagrams, it's less immediate to find a proper word in little time!
Hi! I got the 94 Seconds app after reading about it here, and I like it a lot. I played it typing in answers with the onscreen keyboard at first, but, even though I don't consider myself a very slow onscreen typist, I didn't have time to answer many questions for the time ran out. Things were much better when I used my bluetooth keyboard to type answers: I could type them much quicker that way, a pretty important thing to consider with the limited time you have to answer clues in this game. I'm not saying nobody should play this game with the onscreen keyboard, I'm just saying that I personally did much better when using my bluetooth keyboard for it.

Looks like, even though there has been no mention of this in the changelog the devs have been busy. In the new version that just came out, all of the buttons now have clear labels and hints. You still need to manually read the category and first letter, but it's nice to know they have indeed listened to our feedback.

Agreed, KLove. I couldn't get the game to work at all, couldn't get past the tutorial. I could hear the hint and the first letter, knew what word I needed to enter, but the onscreen keyboard wouldn't come up no matter what I did.

`I just updated the entry with the issues that just came up. It may be worth taking a look at it again if you're stuck in the tutorial.
