A Newbie to Face ID!

I recently upgraded my iPhone 8 Plus to an iPhone 11, and so far, I'm loving it. Although it still feels at times as if I'm using a stranger's phone, but I'm sure, because it's a new phone, it will take some getting use to, especially since I went from Touch ID to Face ID.

I did run into a weird mystery this morning though. I've enabled the haptic feedback when unlocking with Face ID, but this morning, instead of having the usual haptic vibrations, I heard a "chunk" sound. Every time I locked and woke up my phone, I felt the haptic and heard that same sound.

Now, for most instances, I always only felt the haptic vibrations, no sound. I do have to admit it though, I find it oddly satisfying, not only feeling the haptic vibration, but also hearing that satisfying "chunk" sound. The odd thing is though, some time later, the "chunk" sound went away and now all I get is the haptic vibration again.

Now I know it was early morning and I hadn't yet drank my coffee, but I'm pretty sure I heard it correctly. Perhaps my hearing is playing tricks on me or maybe it was my mind so craving that first cup of "magic" wake up juice that I hallucinated the whole thing.

Was I hallucinating or did I hear correctly? Is there a way to have a sound, as well as the haptic vibration, when unlocking with Face ID? Can I also get that wonderful "chunk" sound play every time I unlock my phone with Face ID?

I'd also be interested in hearing people's experiences with Face ID, lessons learned and tips and tricks.

I've also started annoying my family by sending Animoji videos with funny messages, and will eventually set myself up a Memoji and annoy my loved ones even more. I'm sure like anything, I will eventually get bored of them and only use them from time to time. LOL!

Thanks again and hope everyone has a wonderful fantastic day!

Yep, that's actually supposed to play every time an iPhone, and probably any iOS device, unlocks, not just for VoiceOver users. When it doesn't occur, that's a bug. It also happens to me from time to time. I don't know of any reliable way to make it occur every time as of yet. Sometimes, restarting VoiceOver or the device itself seems to help for a short time.

Thanks Lukas, I've restarted my phone and, sure enough, there is that wonderful "chunk" sound that stole my heart.

Glad to hear I wasn't hallucinating and that this is a bug.

I'll be sure to do my due-diligence and submit feedback to Apple Accessibility.

Thanks for your help.

Alright, so another little question to those of you using Face ID. When in the Messages app and you're recording an Animoji or Memoji, is there a simple way of stopping the recording without hearing VoiceOver at the end when you have to swipe to the "Stop Recording" button?

I thought of using the 2-finger magic tap and instead, it triggered Siri.

Anyone got any useful tips? Thanks!
