Hello,
I just discovered the game A Dark Room. of course, I've heard about it for a while but am a cheapscate so didn't buy it until a few days ago. yet, I love it so far. I'm on the dusty path section, kind of that is. how do you appropriately play this section/explore the world outside the village? note that I no absolutely nothing about working a compass as I've never used one before. however, I feel that that part of the game can rely, and does rely heavily on one's orientation and mobility skills. yet, I don't know what the clicks mean--two clicks East, for example. I also don't know how you're supposed to carry all that food and stuff while still getting the lute items. On top of that, what does the HP mean that's to the left of your stab percentage on the bone spear? One more thing, how are you supposed to keep the fire alight and blazing like mad when you're out of the village/the firelit room?
Thank you,
Ashleigh Piccinino P.S. if this doesn't make sense, I'll try playing and explaining what I mean somehow.

Explanation
You don't need any knowledge of a compass to use this.
Clicks, are basically how many times you should double tap each compass direction. For example, if it says 5 clicks south, double tap the south button 5 times to move your character to that Location. If it says for example, 5 clicks north, 3 clicks west, you must first double tap north 5 times, then double tap on west 3 times.
Eventually you may have to drop something depending on the tyse of storage you have with you. Usually you'll just start out with a pouch of some sort, but if you work hard enough you can make a wagon, allowing you to store lots of things without needing to drop them as soon as the pouch.
I haven't played this in awhile, but I believe the HP to the left of weapons is yours. I could be wrong though.
About the fire, you can't really do that. by the time you go outside to do other things, the coals may die because you're not in the room to support it.
Water and other items in your equipment bag?
Hello,
Thanks for this. Yes, the HP is your hit points and where you can heal yourself. however, how can you keep enough water and food to last as you travel? I've collapsed from starvation many times as I've gone exploring, but I've also gained many perks. Well, actually about six, but that's okay. Also, this can teach orientation and mobility lessons like knowing where your character is just by how far they've gone from the home base. they can use the home base as their starting point every time.

Automatic warping to the places on the compass without losing an
I really wish there were automatic warp points along the map, and you didn't lose water and/or food along your journey. That is, when you "magic tap" for the map, I wish you could automatically go to the point/s shown by double-tapping on the area of the map. Again, I also wish you didn't lose as much food and/or water when doing this. Game works great with the "magic" keyboard, by the way.

Get the cask
If you bring iron back from the iron mine, you can create a lot of useful items. The cask is one of them, it holds 30 units of water that should last you a while. Also, make sure you have the charcutier gathering enough cured meat. Also create the wagon because it stores 400 pounds of items, so you can carry quite a lot of food, weapons and water.
I had to fight several beasts and vigilantes at the town and the cured meat was very useful to stay alive. Try not to tread too far from the village.
Other things to consider are weapons like the iron sword and armor made out of iron which can be found in the workshop I believe.
Thanks for getting me back into the nostalgia of this game, I re-downloaded it yesterday and am now leading a large village.
Wow! What an exciting game!
This sounds like a game I can get hooked on. Does it require headphones? Not that it matters, but I'm just curious.
Text-only rpg
No, this is is a text-based game.
Now have a convoy, so that's pretty cool!
I now possess a convoy to carry most of my things. However, when you get to that part, you'll notice that you can't carry any cured meats more than what you already have/might've had in the previous travel item--the wagon, that is. however, you can get these things from your travels. I also have some other things like guns and steel swords, things like that.
Very touching game ... for me at least
I have reachee the point in this game where the builder said the word murderer but within earshot, I guess to my character. Also, she was sad that I had her build the steel work building and placed some workers in the sulfer mine. I think I know the story behind this, but if I don't, please inform me? is it how the Americans took over from the Native Americans/Indians? It sure seems like that, and every time I "hear" the builder saying something of dark times, it makes me tear up a little. I have some Cherokee heritage, so this is pretty neat but touching for me as well. However, I'd like to know the story of A Dark Room. What's the story behind the game/where's it set in time/other things like that.
